Guest guest
It's called dehydration......if you don't drink enough liquids you will start to contract....the body is trying to compensate for whatever it is lacking...ie water I learned this with Austin a week before I had him....had started contractions (3 mins. apart) and went straight to L & D and they hooked me up to IV fluids....they stopped once I had enough fluids on board. Just an FYI Blessings Abound, (Becky) Rowe Mom to Trey (8 ADHD) & Austin (6 MDS) ________________________________ Family Assistance Coordinator www.imdsa.org or becky@... ________________________________ To: MosaicDS Sent: Friday, January 9, 2009 11:56:16 PM Subject: Re: Hairbows and bracelets.... info on them, Hey , I know first hand how the best rest at this stage is! Zoe tried to come at 20 weeks and I had mag for 4 days and then sent home on a terbutaline pump for complete bed rest until she finally came at 36! You have made it past the critical stage so congrats!! I learned a lot since getting pregnant with Zoe and apparently births before 30 weeks are at a great risk for CP. So good job mommy! You've given your baby extra brain growth!! A little trick to keep those contractions down... drink as much water as you can during the day. For some reason, water will lower the contractions. .. never did learn the technical reason why but it works great (plus my skin never looked better during that time! haha). Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy. Zoe was born with a complete AV canal defect and she had her surgery at 6 months when she was 11 pounds. I've been through it so if I can help... e-mail me!!! Suzanne
Guest guest
I think I came across to harsh, for that I apologize...Let me explain it better: Your skin is an organ, it helps protect against foreign agents such as dirt, germs, etc. It also helps maintain body temperature and helps protect the inner organs such as liver, lungs, heart, etc. It needs water to help maintain itself and do it's job. When your skin doesn't have enough fluids to do it's job, it sends a message to the brain that something is wrong, fix it. The brain recognizes this and immediately views the pregnancy as the foreign object (which it actually is because it's something that you weren't born with such as your lungs for instance) and it tries to get rid of that foreign object by natural means (labor). When you get the right amount of fluids on board for the skin to do it's job correctly it sends a message to the brain that everything is okay now, we're good. The brain stops sending the message to the rest of the body to get rid of the foreign object and everything goes back " normal " and labor stops. I hope I've managed to explain the " technicalities " of things and if there is anything I missed, those of you who are nurses pipe in here and fill in the missing links....thanks!
