hi Anne,

thanks for your response.

yes, i did wonder about asking at Granary =nods=

been thinking to grow some, yes =nods= good for wildlife as well as

tincture making :) there's a patch toward the back of the garden that

i've a mind to sorting out to do so - underneath where i usually feed

the birds. aware i'll need to wait til next spring at least before i can

make any tincture tho... but i think planting seed now-ish would

probably work out for next years' growth - i think i've read that

tincture is made from first year rosette & roots (not the second year,

long tall stemmy plants).

would be no problem with misidentification....

i think a spot of very careful wildcrafting in the meantime sounds like

it might be the answer wrt making tincture before next year. thanks for

the reminder re waste ground, etc. i live fairly close to a canal...

thanks again :)

Hi Eirwen,

Panacea used to do a tincture of Teasel, TCM uses Teasel, the Pinyin name is Xu

duan. The Teasel they use is Dipsacus asperoides. Don't have their phone number

right now, but I pretty sure it's online if you search for Panacea. Hope that

helps.

Hi Eirwen, we will be selling it next year at Broad oak herbs, at

granary is making life simpler by streamlining her range as she encourages us to

take up the slack at www.broadoakherbs.co.uk.

She mentioned this at her open day.

We hoped to have had it ready for this year but it just did not happen. Also we

are establishing white sage another Mathhew Wood favourite !

We update our live list every monday so check it out on the website.

best wishes

Please also be aware that different formats will be used differently and not

necessarily interchangeable. Also most herbs in TCM are often used in the

context of a main formula to enhance or modify the overall effect for a

particular case. So perhaps thus is misleading.

i think they can be used interchangeably...

Sorry I made two potentially confusing posts! I'm not not sure if both species

can be used interchangeably, my therapeutic experience relates only to the TCM

version and application. Using a different format e.g. Tincture v granules can

radically alter the properties, I've only used granules/powder. As far as I

understand addition of alcohol makes herbs more moving. Possibly an advantage

with this herb as it leans to Yang in nature.

Let us know how you go on!

aha! yes, interesting to think about...

> Let us know how you go on!

will try and remember to!

so far i've chanced upon some young (tho second year) teasel plants at a

roundabout, and have started making a small amount of fresh tincture

from the roots of three (they were small!). will see what that's like in

6 weeks' time :) ...and then see how i get on with it...
