Guest guest
After doing some further research on the facility mom is currently in, they ARE part of a continuing care retirement community, which provides different levels of care. So why are they trying to get her out of here period? That is the impression I'm getting. Why, when they could transfer her to an assisted living secured unit which they have and said she needs to be transferred to? I've also did a check on this facility and based on their last inspection date of June 2006, they have had and are ongoing deficiencies in regards to the problems we are experiencing. Hmmm.... > > > Sorry I've been mia the last few days. Guest guest
Hi Mel, I think what you are seeing is red flags. Maybe you should try speaking with the Director of Nursing, since the social worker, in this instance, does not appear to be effective. You can also call the facility doctor and speak to him/her directly. My father lived in a " continuing care " facility...which I thought would be good as he progressed in life. Turns out they were pretty good on the independent living side. Ok on the assisted living (much smaller) and not so good on the SNF (also small). It looked good, but they really didn't want to deal with the " hard " cases. They primarily saw their SNF as a rehab facility until they could get them back to independent living. Originally, their ratings looked good at the SNF, but then after my experience & a few others there at the same time, I looked at their ratings the next year and they had dropped horribly. Anyway, if you are having this much trouble it doesn't bode well for future care. My dad's place basically gave me 2 weeks to find another place, because he required too much attention (they did this to at least three families while I was there). Their policy was no " physical " restraints..except they wouldn't mind drugging them til they can't move...easier to care for It wasn't working for us. I'm sorry you are having to deal with this...it's hard enough getting things settled as it is. Maybe you can see if there are other more suitable facilities in your area...as a backup plan if you can't get your situation resolved. In the meantime, keep pursuing your appointment with the memory clinic....you are going to need that where ever you end up. Keep after them! I hope you can get some reults. Guest guest
Hi , Should I call the social worker one more time in the am to see where she is at with the referral/ auth, ro go straight to the nursing director? I feel the social worker has had ample time to get this done. It just seems like excuses. Maybe the nursing director would give me better, direct answers too. I am also starting to think that maybe the facility mom is in now, isn't where she should be long term. If they can't get it together now, what will we run into down the road? > > > > > > > > > Sorry I've been mia the last few days. Guest guest
I would call the social worker again to see what she has arranged. If she still hasn't done anything, I would find some one else. (Or ask her who it is you should be speaking to instead). I've had good luck with the social worker where I am now. She is always taking care of things and directs me to the right person to deal with. I find one of the most frustrating things about NH's is that there are so many different people involved in the care, it's hard to get to the right person and have continuity in care. You may want to request a care plan meeting to try to get to the bottom of some of this. I'm not sure of all of the specifics, but I believe they carry more weight. Good luck and hang in there. Guest guest
Good news everybody, I spoke to the social worker this morning. She told me the referral/auth to the memory clinic is in the works. Their gathering more information to provide to the memory clinic. As soon as she gets an appointment setup for mom, she will me and let me know when. I will keep you all posted and thank you for your support in advance. mel374@...> wrote: > > > Sorry I've been mia the last few days. Guest guest
Hi Mel, Glad you are finally seeing some progress. On the up side, at least they do have a dementia facility, they are concerned about over medicating, and if they do have enough staff, then maybe it just takes time to get settled. We are always anxious for our lo's and things never to seem to move fast enough for us. Hope things continue to work out for you.
