Let me guess, you are seeing a DO, not an Endo MD

My doctor recommended that I take both Chromium 200 mcg daily, and an herb called Gymnema Sylvestre

I am seeing an MD, a family practitioner, who is highly recommended in my area for the treatment of both type 1 and 2 diabetics.

It is recommened by many as helping to cure a craving for sugar, as it

supposedly make sugar taste awful....I take 200mg American Ginseng before

meals and garlic tabs (400mg) after eating dinner along with chromium and

Alpha-lipoeic acid...I know for me this works cause if I don't I notice a

bump in Bgs. there is a supplement called VitaBetic which is a perfect

vitamin supplement for kids like us.

I see an endo and she is the one who told me about Lo-carb and all the

vitamins and herbs I yake...so that's not always the case...some docs are

up on the latest research and willing to try different approaches!

Kind of reminds me of a previous post that I have sent dealing with silly people looking for a silver bullet.

No, the latest recognized research doesn't agree with the herb way, and that approach is not recognized by any sanctioned diabetes body due to the fact that there hasn't been any creditable proof that they work

Lo-carb diets are also not recognized by the same sanctioned diabetes bodies due to their potential high risk.

They are just different approaches, not fact proven approaches.

No there is no silver bullet, but for me eating Locarb and taking herbs and

vitamins works, and isn't seeming to be at all harmful, actually the best

numbers I've seen in years and I've eaten lo-carb for 2 years with lower

HDL and higher LDL reading...soooo...it works for me..so why shouldn't I

tell people about it! And I have learned that what is sanctioned by the

ADA doesn't seem to work for me.

I have gleaned much from this list, from people talking about what they are

doing, and am glad to share my experiences...the best thing about this list

is that everyone has different experiences and all of them help me cope

better with this disease! Thanks all!

My herbs are called fruits and vegetables. Controlling carbs is all I

ever needed. I did find glucosamine/chondroitin gave me relief from

arthritic hip pain, don't take it pain returns. Sam

Sorry didn't mean to open a can of worms. I am not looking for a silver bullet, nor any other quick fix. There isn't one, and I am not naive enough to think there is, I quite simply asked if anyone had any experience with this particular herb -- good or bad, as I had never heard of it before the Dr. mentioned it.

List members,

Info is important to all of us but maybe it should be mentioned that herbal

treatments are not regulated (read tested & certified safe and effective)

by the FDA or any other reliable, competent body according to my past reading.

A word to the wise...
