Guest guest
Welcome . It is a terrific program. One thing I have learned the hard way (been doing this since 3/29/1999 and have only missed one meeting1) is that the program works IF you work it. * Becky  * " Everything is in the mind. Guest guest
Hi , My name is Pam and I live in Australia. Well I had Rai in February and was warned not to fall pregnant for twelve months. The doctor giving me the meds told me he had two couples that fell pregnant six months after and they had terrible side effects. He never did tell me what they were. I am surprised they didn't give you some guide line, even if it was 6 months, you have just had radioactive treatment. Anyway I can't say much b/c I am pregnant and two months at that. I have had blood tests and I am normal at the moment and my doctor does not seem too concerned though I have had some sort of haemorrhage and there is blood around the baby but I have not seen any of it. I bled for an afternoon and that is when I found out I was pregnant. Anyway I am going to a special women's clinic in Melbourne to have a u/s done at twelve weeks so we can find out if the Rai is affecting the baby and what is going on with bubs. I will keep you posted. Hope to hear from you soon. Pam Radioactive Mamma New here > Hello! > > My name is , I'm 37, and we're just getting my Grave's disease > under control after almost 3 years. Guest guest
Hi ... Welcome to the group! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have, as it has really helped me so much since I joined about a month ago. Everyone has been welcoming, supportive, kind, and they have all shared so much with me. It is truly one of the best groups I think out there. We are moving to the Shenendoah area...small town as we are ready to move out of the rat race in Phoenix. It is in the southwest corner of the state...close to Nebraska City, about an hour and a 1/2 from Omaha... Where were you raised in Iowa? Guest guest
Hi feistyred... I think of it this way. A disease (e.g. cancer) can spread to other parts of the body. I have never heard of any form of autism (including high functioning autism/Asperger Sydrome) spreading to other parts of the body. The best way I think of it is that a disorder is confined a certain part of the body, like the brain or an ear. Asperger Sydrome is a neurological disorder (AKA " brain difference " ) that affects the frontal lobe of a person's brain. As a result, the abilities to empathize with others and understand facial expressions are limited. This, when compared to a neurotypical individual (who is able to understand empathy and facial expressions much earlier in life than someone on the spectrum), who is not on the autism spectrum. My suggestion to you is to start learning about Asperger Sydrome/autism spectrum disorders through going to your local library or buying a few books at your local bookstore or online. A couple titles I suggest include: " The Complete Guide to Asperger Syndrome " by Tony Attwood " The Other Half of Asperger Syndrome " - a guide to living in an intimate relationship with a partner who has Asperger syndrome by Maxine Aston I recommend that you go to this group's website, which can be accessed at http://www.aspires-relationships.com Click on the link and you will be taken to the homepage. You will find books, articles, and other important information there which can help you. I hope this helps you, > > > > > ** > > > > > > > > > Hello again, > > > I was talking with my partner this morning and I told him that I suspected > > > he is on the spectrum. But unlike (non-developmental) neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, AS is part of a person's core makeup throughout their entire life. Guest guest
>> He told me that I need to do more research since it is a developmental disease and he is no longer developing. So therefore he does not have it. Hmmm. I always thought that the " developmental " aspect of a disease/disorder/condition/whatever refers to the development of the fetus in the womb. Guest guest
> Nope, CJ > > You're mistaking " developmental " for " congenital " . It is appropriate to refer to autism as a congenital condition not because it's obvious at birth, but because it's a condition that, as far as we know now, occurs prior to birth. Hence medical interest in genetic markers indicative of the condition, etc. > > N. Meyer > > Thanks, . So, perhaps a " developmental " disorder is on a different axis then, referring to disorders involving one's ability to meet certain milestones. If so, one could have a congenital disorder, and it may (or may not) also be developmental. Best, ~CJ
