Guest guest
Have they seen you when you have a cold? Upper respiratory illness definitely contributes to asthma symptoms! Maybe on a normal day your asthma seems mild but the illness could put you in to a flair.I have my 2nd cold in a month and am miserable! I am having a hard time breathing and am quite wheezy. I have uncontrolled asthma anyway but the cold is definitely making it worse! Thanks goodness for home oxygen and nebulizers!!!To: asthma Sent: Friday, October 14, 2011 12:23 PMSubject: Re: Response to "feels like my 4th chest cold is coming on what should i do?" thanks for the reply judith my lung doctor said they were not going to treat me cause they said my asthma was not bad enough to treat, said it was mild and not worthy of treating but i beg to differ

Guest guest
I have to agree with both Judy and . Get that inhaler filled and use it for now. If your symptoms get worse over the weekend go to the ER. Don't wait until it is too bad. Asthma/breathing issues is always a reason to be seen and evaluated. I rarely wheeze and my lungs usually sound clear even when I am extremely compromised. So, I don't buy that excuse. You really do need to look into another physician. It sounds like you are seeing a pulmonologist. My suggestion is for you to find a good asthma/allergy specialist. You will be surprised at the difference in attitude. Even mild asthma has to be followed and treated as needed. Guest guest
Doctors do what they are used to do.. Unfortunately, it does not always work. So its important to be personally responsible for one's health and wellness.FaithSubject: Re: Response to "feels like my 4th chest cold is coming on what should i do?"To: asthma Date: Saturday, October 15, 2011, 2:56 AM well emily my reg doctor has seen me when i am sick with bad cough and she always says my lungs are clear and gives me an everyday inhaler to take, the last time i got sick in july i had to asthma attacks that time with it and that time i was outside going fireworks and someone like a foot away was smoking lots and after they left i started coughing bad again ended up sick and back on my inhaler again. had this in december/jan got antibiotics for it cause i had a sinus infection got sick in april had it a month long cause old reg doctor said it was nothing so i changed doctors cause he was an ass so was inbetween doctor for a while so had to tough it out swore it was bronchitis pr pneumonia but lungs were clear but doctor gave me inhaler then i got sick agian in july got another inhaler and now feels like i am gettign sick again. so idk what to do i am gettign annoyed big time > > Have they seen you when you have a cold? Guest guest
Make an appt ASAP. They said come in if you don't get better or get worse. Obviously that has already happened. I think a lot of times people don't realize how bad it is unless they see it. If you are set in seeing your regular dr get an appt now. If you are upset with your dr try to get in to someone new. But don't put it off any longer. You don't want to regret not going sooner. Plus haven't you just reached the point you are sick of being sick??? >i am here with an update on my coughing that is driving me banana's. after about 5 days of coughing i decided to go and get my everyday inhaler that i use when sick refilled so that i could start feeling better so i got it last monday and started it last tuesday morning. so like i said i started it last tuesday morning and i am no better at all, i still cough real bad but only when i lay down and it gets to the point where i cough so bad that it hurts inside with almost every cough and it is also bad enough that the other day i swear i heard a cough underneath the cough i was coughing. and i have talked to friends about this and they all said that it sounded like i had bronchitis, so i was starting to agree with them because my inhaler was not working. so i used the inhaler for a lil over a week and i still feel really awful, it got to the point that as soon as i layed down i would cough so bad it either hurt inside or my head would spin and i was getting tired of it, so i took my fiends advice and i called my doctor yesterday to see what they wanted to do about it. so when i called i said i have a bad cough for 2 weeks got the inhaler that i am to use when sick refilled and been on it a week and i am no better yet and wondering what i should do. so they called back later and said ok doctor said to continue to use the inhaler and also try some musinex and if no better or u get worse then u will have to come in for a visit. i was a lil mad at that cause i feel that i am already worse. so idk what to do right now so if anyone has any suggestions that woould be great. some people even told me to go to urgent care but that is out of the question unless i find a way to get there. thanks again for the help > > >> >> Bummer! Guest guest
Before I knew I had bronchial asthma triggered by my environmental allergies, I used to cough up my lungs every time the seasonal pollen was especially high. I was being treated by an allergist, and my Dad was a doctor, but no one seemed to connect the coughing " jags " (my grandmother's term) with asthma. I never wheezed like the kid at school with asthma. Always was athletic and ran track in high school (with difficulty but one of the fastest in spite of it.) It wasn't until my toddler was identified with allergy-induced asthma when I was 31 that I realized it was what had been plaguing me most of my life. Several years ago, I had a neighbor who developed coughing fits in the morning. Several of us suggested that she might have asthma, and finally she went to her doctor first thing in the morning so he could hear her coughing up her lungs in his waiting room. They got her back to an exam room even without an appointment, and she ended up being treated for allergies and asthma. My sister-in-law had a similar problem, although her MD husband kept ignoring her. After five months of coughing up her lungs, I urged her to please see a real doctor who diagnosed her with allergy-induced bronchial asthma. They both keep the coughing under control by managing their seasonal allergies(Spring and Fall are the worse for all of us,) and pre-emptive use of inhalers to calm bronchial spasms and maintain the airway. I'm no expert, but I do know that this is certainly a possible diagnosis for someone with recurring " colds " or coughing fits. If you can't get an appointment, you might want to hang out in the doctor's office so his whole staff can hear how bad this coughing has been for themselves. I've lived with asthma more more than 50 years, and just finally had my first pulmonary function test this past Spring. Seeing a pulmonologist has opened my eyes to how much better I could have been functioning if I had seen one a long time ago. Good luck!
