DH??? Designated Hitter?

fp

Gail

I am glad to hear that there is another bird lover on the list. I would love to get a couple of canaries, but DH says if I bring anymore birds home that he is going to leave me! LOL!

I know what you mean about collecting birds. Just came back from a bird

fair in Raleigh which is ONLY a six hour drive from where I live.

Nutty, huh?

On the other hand, on the way up, my friends and I discussed the case of

an elderly gentleman who lost his wife of 50 years to cancer two years

ago. For an entire year, he was in a deep depression, refusing to eat

or care for himself. Then he discovered birds (little finches, as it

was) and his whole world turned around; he and his son enjoy going to

bird shows, talking to breeders, checking out what is available and

purchasing birds. This has helped him come through a very difficult

time and appears to have given him a new lease on life....

Gail,

You haven't met the big bird mommy herself--your list owner!

I have an indoor aviary (room in the house) full of doves, quail,

cockateils, and finches. We just finished maternity season and the

place was really fun finding where all the nest were and how many

hatched. We still have a cockateil mom setting.

I also have a yellow-naped Amazon, Ringo, who calls me Lardbutt. Don't

know where he learned that name, except he watches TV. We've had

conures, and a cockatoo who nearly ate our brand-new home up.

Cool on the aviary; birds can be a lot of work but also provide much

enjoyment.

My blue and gold macaw (the only biggie bird I have) likes to remind me

that in the wild, their screams can be heard a mile away. It works the

same way in the city too, especially if you happen to be near her when

she lets out a shriek. I have learned the term " ears ringing " is quite

true....

Geez, . We have lives other than diabetes. Sometimes people get off track. They do try to put OT on those notes. Live is not just diabetes. Birds aren't my thing (Disney for me) but I can use a delete key if I am not interested. There is plenty of diabetes info here and plenty of support.
