Guest guest
Regarding increasing the dosage of a steroid inhaler, be careful! Some inhalers are not to be used more than the recommended dose. If you have a nebuliser, it's safer to increase your nebs, especially if you are using salbutamol. When really ill I can take as many salbutamol nebs as I need, even back to back if the situation calls for it. When admitted into hospital, I am normally so ill I'm rushed into resus where they have given me 6 nebs one after the other before. This is NOT the case with atrovent (ipratropium), this should not be taken more than recommended. Don't know about the other available nebuliser drugs so suggest a chat with your doc or pharmacist. And I make sure it is at least 10 to 12 hours between times of usage. Or even the rescue inhaler, I will only use it once, no more than that. As for my regular maintenance meds, I only use then as prescribed, no more than that. Needed to make that clear. I have read on here about people that would not call the Dr. or would not go to the ER, and keep using these meds over and over, and to me that is very dangerous. Yes we are given these meds, but, with instructions, I do as I am told, and if they don't work I go to the ER, I don't fool around, it is too dangerous to over medicate with these drugs. Just wanted to make that clear. To: "asthma " <asthma >Sent: Thursday, November 3, 2011 12:34 PMSubject: Re: Increase inhaled steroids during flare-ups? Hi Tasha, Never. I will increase nebulizer/inhaler usage (albuterol). I have also increased oral steroids when my doctor wasn't available. The inhaled steroids have never been increased during a flare by me or my doctor. Not even when I was hospitalized. I'm not sure that it would help any at all. It may even hurt as the controller meds in the US also have a LABA which you really don't want to overuse. Be careful. I use my nebulizer usually, it so far has kept me out of the hospital, not always, but, a lot of times. Used it in addition to my regular inhalers, and my rescue inhalers. Don't like to use that much, but, sometimes have to do it. To: asthma Sent: Wednesday, November 2, 2011 9:13 AMSubject: Increase inhaled steroids during flare-ups?
