Elaine,

I don't understand why she isn't on the drugs she was sent in with. If their MD

has a problem, he could discuss with you taking her off them. I have never

heard of a Nursing staff discontinuing drugs?

I would raise Holy He##.

Just my opinion.

Hugs,

Donna R

Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in

a nh.

She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.

Re: Controversy Over Use of Antipsychotic Drugs for

Dementia

Another Seroquel story. Our Mom's geriatric specialist held off as

long as possibe precribing seroquel, but last spring decided to

prescribe the lowest dose, cut in half. She has livd in an AFC for 5

years and done quite well since we found this Dr. Last Sunday she was

sent to the hospital from the AFC and we were told that they couldn't

take care of her there anymore. She was admitted to a nursing home at

10:30 yesterday morning. The nursing home has an issue with Seroquel

and said the in-house Dr. would have to okay it. By 7:00 last night

she was paranoid, crying, screaming and begging for help and the Dr.

still had not seen her. I just don't understand this. Some of the

side effects are listed as high cholesterol, drowsiness and weight

gain. She has suffered greatly over the years and I would rather she

have these simple side effects than the hell she is going through

without the Seroquel. Elaine from Michigan
