Guest guest
Have u tried eliminating yeast? I've had a few patients who have this problem and most have had yeast sensitivity Lynda :-) Sent from my iPhone > I have probably asked this before but never had an answer. And it doesn't matter what I eat - in fact it often seems that the healthier choices have the worst effect but that might be illusory. I have tried eliminating the usual culprits - wheat, dairy, sugar - all to no avail and eat a pretty varied diet so I am certain this isn't an allergy to a particular food or food group but rather to eating in general. Although prone to allergic rhinitis, this is not affecting me at present, sinuses are clear, no cough or chest problems, just this mucus production at back of throat. I have tried numerous respiratory and digestive herbs with very little impact on the problem and would be grateful for ideas from the group. > > a > >
Guest guest
It can be a nervous reflex also have you checked out post nasal drip? In some cases mucus and acid can be generated from the stomach that persists and affects the sinsuses, I've seen two cases like this. Each strangely was cured by deep thai massage and one surgery! Have you worked from the mucus reflex side? Lorraine. > > > I have probably asked this before but never had an answer. Guest guest
Hi again a, I have seen the symptoms you describe in cases of mild reflux. Have you considered this yet? Kind regards, Kerry > I have probably asked this before but never had an answer. Guest guest
Thanks Kerry, reflux was one of the first things I did consider but the various herbs and other protocols I have tried with reflux in mind have had little impact on symptoms. I even pursued this with my GP and had an ultrasound scan to check for ulcers, hernias etc but was given 100% all clear on that score. As GP wants me to try the dreaded omeprazole I am now avoiding her!
Guest guest
Thanks Lorraine, I am exploring the mucous reflex side at present. Def not nervous reflex as worst when relaxed at home. Sinuses clear and I am pretty sure it isn't therefore post nasal drip. I'll pass on the surgery (what was the surgical cure anyway?) and don't have a local Thai massage person. Guest guest
Hi Kerry, Sorry it's taken me so long to reply - good weather means I've spent every spare minute gardening!. I started out with both a tea: althea fol, chamomilla, filipendula & glycyrrhiza and tincture: althea rad, cynara, filipendula, marrubium, rheum. Which wasn't much help but someone suggested chamomile might actually make things worse so tried the tea again minus the chamomilla. Then, again on someone else's suggestion, added a tincture purely to stimulate stomach acid secretion (reflux being more commonly a sign of hypo not hyperacidity) - of Artemisia absinthium, Erythrea centaurium, Levisticum and Zingiber to take before meals and a demulcent powder to mix up in a little water and take immediately after meals of Curcuma, Glycyrrhiza & Ulmus fulva. But although this combo seemed to help a little initially, after a while it became less effective so I decided to tackle from more of a mucous membrane/allergy/respiratory angle with tincture arch. semen, Bupleurum, Glechoma, Glycyrrhiza, Lobelia, Plantago and Rhodiola. Then after another 6-7 weeks of no discernable effect reverted to bitters but with mucuous membrane and anti-inflam support of Acorus, Curcuma, , Plantago - again pretty ineffective. Latest tincture is Achillea, Acorus, Cimicifuga, Crataegus flos, Filipendula, Plantago and Urtica as I've been suffering with arthritis in my hands and hip from gardening - this tx is very effective for my arthritis but no effect on the throat clearing hence my original posting. Another herbalist has recommended a tincture in spray bottle to spray back of throat after meals - plantago, sambucus flos and a little thyme and peppermint which I am also trying but I think the thyme & /or peppermint are irritating and making problem worse so may try similar idea without these two when I think I've given the spray a fair trial. a (bet you wish you hadn't asked now with this long list!) > > Hi a, > > As your doctor is offering you omeprazole, is it safe to assume that > you've already tried a course of demulcents to no avail?
