Guest guest
Hello and welcome Anita. You mentioned that your mother-in-law is 67 years old. Does she have any known history of heart disease, stroke, or circulation problems? Lupus can be a very grave disease in itsself. Did you ever determine what the cause of the vomiting of blood was? If she will not visit a doctor, it's going to be very difficult to determine any of these things. Nausea and dizziness in this case can mean impending heart attack (that doesn't mean that it HAS to be, I'm just taking into consideration her age). When it comes to the constipation, is she getting exercise daily, and is she able to walk? Inactivity in the elderly is a major cause of constipation. You haven't posted her lab readings, compared to the normal readings, so we don't know about her thyroid. Can you post these? new member intro I joined this group in hopes of finding some information on hypothyroidism. My mother-in-law is 67 years old and has this disease. She also has lupus and is having a very difficult time in her life right now. She is currently taking synthroid and I believe the dose is 125mcg not sure on this dosage. She was on Armour and it didn't help her at all. She has been in and out of the hospital several times in the past month. I am wondering if some of her symptoms are due to her thyroid problem. The doctors tell her thyroid count is very low. She is suffering from constipation, dizziness, sweating and she is very nervous. She is unable to drive at this point because she is so dizzy that she can't handle it. She seems to get very nauseous when she has these episodes. The first time that she went into the hospital she had to be taken by ambulance. She was unresponsive and was throwing up blood. She had a severe problem with constipation at that time. Three days prior to this she was feeling great but everything has went downhill from there. Yesterday I picked her up to take her for some blood work and she was complaining that she was very cold and her hands were like ice. It is a normal midwest summer here and I couldn't understand why she was so cold. I also notice that she is getting very forgetful and am wondering if this doesn't all play into the thyroid somehow. I have looked in various places on the internet for information but just can't seem to find the right thing. I am wondering if anyone can give me any information, their opinion or point me in the right direction to help me. I have suggested she go to a specialist and that is out of the question at this point. We live in a small rural area and she doesn't want to make the one hour trip to see someone else. I don't think she is even able to at this point. I appreciate all your help. Thanks ina advance.Anita
Guest guest
, thanks for the welcome and reply in response to my post about my mother-in-law. By the way her name is so I should be able to remember yours quite easily. As far as I know she has not had any past history of heart disease or stroke. When we took her to the hospital a few weeks ago she was very incoherent and couldn't move. They thought at that time that she had possibly had a stroke but then ruled that out. She had been going for several years to a pain specialist who was treating her for arthritis and hypothyroidism. After a routine blood test prior to a surgery she was needing they determined that she had lupus. I finally convinced her a few weeks ago that she really needed at least a family physician instead of just having a pain doctor treating her. I take her to her appointments for that as she is unable to drive due to the dizziness and just not feeling well, ver tired I noticed. I can't tell you exactly what her lab values were as I couldn't seem to catch the doctor when she was in the hospital and my mother-in-law couldn't remember the numbers. She told me they were very low, in fact I think quite dangerously low at that time. I don't know if they have came up or not now. She had a blood test on Saturday morning that the doctor ordered because she was feeling so bad. Not sure when the results will be back in but I know she does go on the 10th for a check up. A lot of her constipation is, according to the doctor due to her thyroid and also the lupus affecting her small intestine. It is also affecting her kidneys to a point as sometimes she has a very difficult time in urinating. Sorry I can't give you any more information about her labs but as soon as I find out I will post them on here. Thanks once again. As you can tell, I am very concerned about my MIL as I know she is extremely ill. I am not quite sure what to do at this point as she is sometimes not as co- operative as I would like for her to be. Guest guest
Well I got my doc to split my rx's into two separate ones so I can control it now. Yeah! We'll see how I do. I definitely need the E2. I can feel a change because my symptoms from before we added it are returning. Steph Re: New member Intro Hi Steph! Good to see you here! This is a great group and I have gotten some very helpful advice here, actually I feel it saved me from going to the hospital, since myproblems were caused by too much progesterone. Now that I'm on E2 only I feel so much better. Eventually I will addsome vaginal P, but for now I have enough P in my body to last awhile.Combined creams are bad because you can't regulate them according tosymptoms or labs.Hope you find some good answers here.>> Hello all,> > I have been hearing about this group for quite some time and I amsure I will recognize some of you once I get going. > > To give you some background, dx'd with thyroid cancer in March '00after the birth of my son. Had 3 RAI's in 5 years time. Finally sawthe light and switched to a holistic MD who began balancing myhormones with BHrt and Armour. I did really well initially but 3weeks ago I crashed and burned. I felt like I was pregnant / PMSing.I had started 100 mgs of Iodoral (Iodine) a few weeks earlier and Iknow that iodine increases sensitivity of hormone receptors so Iwonder if this has something to do with it.> > In an effort to figure out what was messing with my system I stoppedeverything I was on. Any suggestions about how to deal with this. Doc says toquit BHrt cream (combined E2 & P in the same cream) until I feel Ineed it but I am wondering if E2 alone would be a good idea. I haveheard that this will help bring the P issues down.> > Thanks for the help!> > B.> www.naturalthyroidchoices.com>
Guest guest
STEPH!!!!! Woo Hoo, glad to see you here. <grin> On Iodoral, I found it necessary (based on symptoms) to LOWER my Estradiol gel, and progesterone cream, and have (for the time being) gone off progesterone cream. However, I found (again, based on symptoms) the need to increase testosterone gel. Obviously, as you mentioned, Iodoral helped to sensitize my hormone receptors. Perhaps this is the case for you, too. Yes, split all your BHRT components into individual applications, and yes (if this was me) I would also stop all BHRT and wait for symptoms to return, and apply as needed. I got to where I am on BHRT (no uterus/ovaries) entirely thru dosing by symptoms. I am currently symptom-free not only BHRT-wise, but also thyroid-wise. Guest guest
Hey sam!! I have my hot flashes and other things back so the E2 will be good to get back. Finally good not to feel pregnant. LOL! I have been off my BH for 3 weeks now. Steph Re: New member Intro STEPH!!!!! Guest guest
Gosh, 3 weeks off BHRT? Ow. I remember over 10 years without 'any' BHRT of any sort. Ugh. I remember starting BHRT with E2 and added P when I started getting achy breasts - ended up at 250mg P per day, but eventually tapped down to under 40mg (and now none, for now). Added Te after I felt " maintained " on E2 and P, and got all WOWEE and my wonderful (but apparently deadly hahaha) libido returned with a vengence (heh heh heh)... And as I added Armour (by symptoms) I juggled E2 and P slightly up and down " as needed " . That's how " I " did it... If you are on the yahoo group " thyroid " , you can go back into the archives and read what I did and my <ahem> comments and adventures during that process. As a side note, after I added BHRT to Armour (et al) I melted back into normal weight quite rapidly.
