Hi,

Does anyone have a good recipe for a topical sinus paste / ointment - with a

tried and tested track record. I seem to be seeing a lot of intractable sinus

patients. Normal liver / sinus internal mixes + netti pot + probiotics still

not doing it! (though Artemisia annua worked like magic with one patient)

Thanks

I have been using Simon Mills cream from Principles and Practices for several

years with good effect.

Have you thought about the possible presence of helicobacter in the gut? I

am not a herbalist but I do know there is a link between mucus membranes and

that helicobacter can be difficult to treat without going down conventional

routes.

You appear to be more concerned about some sort of members only club than

anything else, knowledge is for sharing. I will not respond to your next

that is not the point - this was set up as a list for qualified herbalists so

that we could post freely without having to explain what we do and why to non

herbalists - why is there a problem with me querying why someone who says they

are not a herbalist is here??

My issue with the original post is as follows

Before the link between helicobacter and stomach ulcers/mucous menbrane

was established, allowing orthodox medicine to have an alternative

method of treating ulcers ,rather than the problematic use of agents to

prevent secretion of stomach juices) herbalists had been treating such

conditions very effectively, for as long as I have been a herbalist and,

I suspect even longer ;-)......), using mucous membrane restoratives and

nervines.

I feel that the idea that we have to imitate orthodox medicine by

eliminating an organism rather than treating the conditions which allow

it to proliferate is a major red herring.

Hi All

Don't know why but all the posts with " Sinusitis " in the subject line are ending

up in the group spam folder, which is why there have been delays in some of them

getting through.

I too have a tricky patient with chronic sinusitis. I've just looked at

Simon Mills' sinusitis recipe - do you prescribe it as a cream or a

linament, and what quantity should be applied?

Thanks

> I too have a tricky patient with chronic sinusitis.

I'm sorry if I state the obvious, but chronic sinusitis is very often (perhaps

always) a symptom of one or more fungal infections in the sinuses.

The usual med for acute sinusitis is penicillin.

Because docs don't know about the fungal nature of chronic sinusitis, they

give penicillin for that, too.

That again only adds to the fungal flora in the sinuses.

To get at the cause of the problem, I'd check for mold in the living or

working spaces.

Once that is eliminated, the next step is a simple antifungal course, either

medical (it'll work), or holistic (with antifungals as teas, tinctures and in

small doses in the neti pot).

Best,

Hi Henriette

Please could you clarify how you formed this opinion on the fungal nature of

chronic sinusitis?

Thanks and best wishes

I think |I read about the fungal nature of chronic sinusitis in Br Med J about

How long would you say it takes to respond to that topical mix?

Bit discouraging. A young man wanted help with sinusitis. How often are young

men willing to try herbal medicine? He was in a lot of pain. I tried everything.

Warm poultices, hot teas, inhalations, tinctures...

In the end he went to his surgery and the nurse prescribed him antibiotics.

Why couldn't I help something as simple as sinusitis?

They usually give penicillin for acute sinusities; works a treat.

Where it doesn't work is chronic sinusitis ... penicillin is fungus-derived,

chronic sinusitis is fungal, whoops.

Fungal infection in sinuses? Are you sure? That would be very serious! Are you

sure you don't mean an allergic reaction to fungal spores?

A lot less messy than external rubs and packs and seemed to bring fast

The BMJ reported a high frequency of fungal infections which can co-occur with

I had several clients complain about using snuff so I invented my own nasal

spray based on the ingredients. It works very well for polyps, also client can

maintain regular use.
