Guest guest
Hi Everybody -- heard from Diane (AKA Carol Incognito) and wanted to share her message w/ you all. Her mom is settled at a skilled nursing facility and enjoying it. Less stress for Diane b/c her mom is happy! Here's what she has to say: " ...We had a support group meeting at the JRC [PS- that's " Jewish Rehabilitiation Center " -- added this to our database of recommended facilities...] yesterday and we have a new Director of Nursing. She came to speak at the meeting. They mentioned something about LBD and then I chimed in about my Mom and experience with LBD and the support group and the meeting with the Doctor from MGH at the Sherrill House. All of a sudden she starts pointing her finger at me and says I knew I recognized you. I got nervous...lol...She was the Director of Nursing at the Sherrill House when we had the meeting there and she recognized me from there. We spoke about it and some of the people at the meeting never heard of LBD...I then asked if she knew you and she said yes..do you know her? Anyway, I told her about Dr. Graboys and having watched him the two nights on TV and that you had sent the links and she asked if I would send them to her...which I did....small world, huh? She has been with us for about 2 months. Her name is Helen Brown. Very nice and very knowledgeable and a very hard worker. Mom is doing great. Well adjusted and enjoying herself there. Her health is really good. She turned 80 last month and we had a big birthday party for her there. It was nice. She was so happy. Of course, she doesn't remember the party, but it was fun while she was in the moment. I am finally adjusted to the fact that she is there and feeling ok with it. The guilt is gone and the anger is gone. The happier I see my Mom, the easier it is for me. I spend about 30 hours a week with her there. We have a great time, her roommate is great. My Mom gets a little jealous when I pay attention to other residents, that is a little difficult. I try to do my best to spread some cheer to other resident when I can. I feel badly for some that don't have much company. Anyway, that's that from here. Just working and running back and forth to Swampscott. Take care and thanks for keeping me on your mailing list. We have several people with LBD at the JRC. I brought in all my brochures and the CD and gave them to the social worker. Merry Christmas...and take care... Guest guest
, thanks for sharing the positive news. Not all nursing home experiences are bad, and I am happy that Carol's experiences with her mother in a NH is so good. And, for the guilt going away for Carol. This is what I hope for me and my husband when the time comes, and it will. Love a bunch, Imogene Caregiver for my true Texas Gentleman Husband of 37 years. First diagnosed with Alzheimer's by a Neurologist, OCT, 2005. But, on May 2, 2006 Dr. Schillerstrom, Geriatric/Psychiatrist diagnosed LBD with Parkinsonism. A happy personality is contagious. Infect someone today.
