Wow. You really have a conundrum here. The addiction to morphine and

temazepam alone will make you feel just you describe. Did you know that?

Ask you doctor to wean you off the addictive drugs with non addictive drugs

for pain. There are non narcotic drugs for pain that you could use to kick

those two.

You are taking all the holistic stuff already it seems to me. Until you

quit the alcohol, morphine and temazepam you won¹t be able to differentiate

your symptoms from those addictions.

Can you go to a 12 step program somewhere? That would help you.

Also, I am reading a book that might help you. Its called the mindbody

prescription by Dr Sarno. There is also a site someone keeps

mentioning with musical tones to help you calm your mind and pain. Those

could help you a lot too. Its something like mentallion.com I believe. If

someone else knows the site could you tell this gentleman what it is.

Your mental anguish, your feelings of failure to your children, your

emotions over the weight gain all contribute to feeling poorly as well.

You need multiple approaches to helping you get well. Can you talk to your

doctor about those addictons though? That would be my first step if I was

giving advice to myself or a family member.

I will pray for you and you have my deepest sympathy for your grave

situation. God loves you no matter what you do, what you did and what you

look like. If you can find a ³higher power² of some description that makes

you know you are loved by a source of spiritual comfort that too would help

you get out of bed in the morning.

Good luck and keep writing I think you will find the people here are very

helpful and caring.

I'm an alcoholic and now have over 13 years clean and sober this time. I also

have had long term sobriety in the past.

What I found is that when I took alcohol to help me sleep and for the pain and

stress, but it ended up causing more physical/mental/emotional problems. I

would get some relief and then it would let me down. Due to the cravings, I

would neglect my family even though I thought I was doing all I could.

I can affirm to you that an AA, 12-step spiritual program will help. I remember

the horrible feeling that I wasn't doing what was good for me or my family. Then

the worst thing happened. I tried to stop on my own and couldn't. I was

devastated. I had thought that I was supposed to be able to do it alone. You

know, be strong and able.

The issue with any addictions is that it is beyond any HUMAN help. We are NOT

required to do it alone. We are given weaknesses to give us an opportunity to

experience the grace of God in our lives.

We have nothing to prove to anyone. The burden of the alcohol in my system made

it extremely hard and then impossible for me to function as a mother, friend

etc. All my good intentions meant nothing as I could not follow through.

For the best results in getting off of the alcohol and prescription medications

do it under the supervision of a physician. You will probably need to be

hospitalized to detox as that is safest for you.

By the way, no medication will eliminate all of the pain we feel, we only get it

down to a functional level if we are lucky. And some days will still be better

than others.

Good luck to you, you are in my prayers

Welcome to the site.

First: I always advise new members to go to fibrofix.com. The creator has since

passed but she has left a wonderful treasure of advise and findings.

Second: You need to get off the herbs if you are taking all of the prescribed

medications you mentioned. These together can have adverse affects. Beside the

affects, herbs do not work when mixed with medication. You should either use one

or the other. You shouldn't be mixing alcahol with your medication...that leads

to the negative symptoms you experience each morning. It can also be very

lethal. I can understand how you would go the route you have taken. Many were

the days that I was tempted to get marijuana and get the brief respite of pain.

But this is only a temporary answer. You need to get to the ROOT of the problem.

Jill and Rosemarie have said the rest, my friend. Hope this is the beginning of

a healthy program for you.

And, yes, there have been a couple of men that have appeared on this site.

Welcome again,

M

Does anyone know what happened to Anne Hillebrand?  What did she die of?  I'm

just curious, she was such a big part of our discussions here... but everything

about her death seems to be a secret.  I don't understand.

Hi New member, I am kind of new here myself as I have been lurking for awhile

and I don't always have time to look at all my e-mail. I saw your post though

and felt I had to reply. I have fibromyalgia and IBS. I will tell you something

that made my IBS go away and also helped a lot with the pain of Fibro. My

doctor took blood samples and had them tested for what foods I was sensitive to.

It turns out I was sensitive to a lot. Wheat, Corn, milk, and chicken were the

big ones. When I eliminated these foods from my diet my pain levels went way

down and my IBS went AWAY! The experts told me that it didn't matter what I ate

for the IBS, boy were they wrong! I would encourage you to get your blood

tested too. You might have to go to a naturalpathic doctor for this as They MDs

don't seem to know about this.

I have started a new treatment for fibro which also works for a lot of other

problems too. Its called LDN or Low Dose Naltrexone. There have been studies

and a large number of people on the internet who are taking this and are having

positive results. Even people with Multiple Sclerosis! My Naturalpathic doctor

recommeded to me after a great success with a lupus patient. The only problem

for you with this would be the narcotics. One can not take both at the same

time. So Maybe, if you get off the narcotics you could try that.

I hope this information is helpful. Good luck to you.

Rhonda

When I spoke to Mr. Hillebrand, he said she had died, she died of cancer, and

began to weep. I then spoke up on behalf of the group and said our prayers were

with him. If there was anything I could do just to tell me, then I asked if I

could relay the news to the group. His answer came as, " Yes, I guess so. "

I called him this morning to see how he was doing but you only get a message

from Lovely Anne's voice. He truly loved her...he can't even erase her message

on the phone recorder.

That is about the extent of it. I pray for him every morning.

Hi :

I notice you have already had a couple of responses to your email below and

I agree with them about detoxing and the 12 step program.

One other thing, if you are getting off the drugs, you should take your

natural supplements. I know from a previous job I had that when you are

coming off drugs you should have lots of b complex daily and extra vitamin

B1. When yo do not have enough B1 you can have nightmares.

Also, my sister just came off a drug cocktail like yours. She almost died

this week. She was on diazepam, morphine, lyrica, two antidepressants and

sleeping pills. She was dropping things, woke in the middle of the night

screaming, seeing things, bumping into things running around, talking like

she was drunk can¹t remember a thing her hands were shaking, she lost the

use of her legs and was having BM¹s while standing still in her home. She

could not control her bowels. Her husband took her to the emergency room,

they gave her another drug and then she really got sick vomiting etc. so

her husband took all the drugs away from her and in two days she is a

different person. She went to her doctor and told him what happened and he

gave her a name for it, which she can¹t remember but it means her nervous

system was totally messed up and she could have died. I thank God her

husband took those pills away from her. Every time she felt worse she took

another pill of some kind.

So, be grateful that you are still alive. She cannot believe how grateful

she is just to be alive today. She called me as she lives in Canada and I

live in Florida but all my relatives were with her.

As you can tell all those pills are not making you better, you are not pain

free and you suffer from side effects. Is it so much worse to just have

pain and live on vitamins and exercise?

I think you also should buy the book by Dr Sarno called the Mindbody

Prescription or the other he wrote called Back Pain. You will be amazed at

this information.

It will feel terrible for a couple of days but not as terrible as having

that cocktail destroy your nervous system. You can do this. We are all

rooting for you.

Find a good 12 step program, take a long hot shower, and go there. Meet

some people who will support you, and hug you and care about you. Got to

two or three meetings a day. All those meetings will give you back hope and

self love and a program to work on toward regaining your inner strength.

Trust us, it works.

Have a good day

I don't know if anyone would agree with me but I think you would do better to

cut back each drug a small amount every few(5 -7) days until you're clean.

Hi brian:

I have those salt lamps and they say they do give off ions. I like them and

they make me feel pleasant and calm. Not sure why, but they do.

Hey, I checked out your website about the tortoises. You raise those?

That is a good example of loving something outside of yourself isn¹t it?

How much love and time do you pour into your tortoises? Do you give

yourself that much love and attention?

Think about it. I hope you do but most of us fibro¹s do not. We would jump

over tall buildings for our kids and our animals but for our own self?

Nada!!! Treat your self like you would treat your own child . Shower

that same love on your self. Take to a 12 step group. Put on a

healthy food plan. Help to stop drinking and make some friends who

care about him.

Can you care for like your would care for your tortoises or your

children?

:)

I know what you mean. The detox can fee horrible for sure. Its much less

doing it slow like that. That¹s not a bad idea if can do that and

definitely come off of them. He may need help from a professional to do

this.

Thanks for your support everyone, apart from the pain, i feel a little better

but feel like i have flu with a major depression as well atm.I wish your sister

well, let her know, i am going through a lot of the same problems as her and can

relate to her.I will pray for her tonight, something i don't normally do.

I did read up people rarely die from giving up morphine and i made a conscious

decision to stop a week before, to try to prepare myself when the day comes.

A lot of strange things are falling into place from this site, both my daughters

have ADHD, one of them was quite violent with it, the other was the opposite and

is dreamy and takes forever to become focused on anything. After years of

Ritalin, the eldest is off meds and trying to deal with ADHD on her own but has

grown out of a lot of it, shes left home now. My other daughter needed

dexamphetamine to 'liven ' her up, the docs words not mine. I have spent 20

years learning about toddler taming,CBTwall charts, behaviour strategies etc and

was even praised by a psychiatrist for us being the most sane parents he knew

lol. Should have asked for a certificate at the time stating this lol. The other

strange co-incidence was how FM can start with an emotional event, i was raised

in a violent household (father) and it all ended when my mother had her throat

cut with a broken milk bottle by him and i was left holding her hand until

someone came by to get her an

ambulance at 2 or 3.He went to prison for attempted murder, but my mother was

never the same again living in fear constantly and that rubbed off on us over

the years.I remember very little about my childhood and never asked my mother

what really happened, she went through enough.

Yes they are my tortoises, i was conned years ago and ended up with a stressed

wild tortoise that was very ill.I spent a fortune getting her well and

apologized to her daily for having her took from the wild ,her freedom. I saved

up for another tortoise and was determined that if i bred from her, this would

reduce demand from the wild.Every penny i made went back into making their lives

better. They are a big reason i get up every day, as well as my wife and kids.

Financially i have very little, but emotionally i am a very rich man with my

family around me lol I have had a little more sleep today and taking it hour by

hour, i stopped taking vitamins until i get the runs under control. I think i

will treat myself to a salt lamp if i get through this withdrawal as a reward.

After reading the other email, you are right. I dont treat me as well i like to

treat others, my wife would buy me anything i ask for, within reason if i asked

but i rarely need anything.

Thanks for the support everyone, one day i hope to be in a position to help

others in return. Until then my aim is to get off this stuff and research into

the meds for FM then by the time i eventually get to see the specialist, i will

be able to accept whatever he offers without complications from this concoction

i was taking.

Hi :

Well you certainly seem to have the same type of childhood as many other

fibro sufferers. I do not think this is a coincidence. I believe that we

have bottled up emotions bubbling under the surface like a big festering

wound that is leaking poison into our systems.

To let this wound air out so it stops festering is the trick.

I think your experience with your daughters has taught you a lot of tricks

that you can use in your own case. Care for you as well as you cared for

them. Earn a certificate in caring for by . That is the type of

self love that you need to practice.

Most children that are abused live with self hatred. Little kids blame

themselves when their parents act out. They think if only I was better in

some way, if only I had not done that one thing maybe they would be better.

The guilt is self imposed and lasts as long as we allow it. How to get at

letting all that go is the work we have to do. Its not easy but its more

fun that being on drugs and alcohol and missing out on life.

I am glad you have your family around as a support system. That is a huge

plus for any person. Some people have nobody and that is very sad and makes

healing more difficult, but still not impossible. Start to build on every

little positive thing in your life.

Find every little thing you can to be grateful for and shift your attention

in that direction. Every hour you are drug free be grateful for that.

Every step you make because you have still have two working legs, be

grateful for that too. Every breath you take is something to be grateful

for because there people who can only breathe on a machine. Take a shower

every day and be grateful you have hot water, people in Afghanistan do not

have that.

I once heard that if a person came out of a camp during the holocaust how

much would he appreciate hot food, hot water and a warm bed. We take it all

for granted do we not? That includes me.

There is a beautiful blue sky up there and gorgeous trees, parks, dogs,

your tortoises. Feel grateful and realize all these things are given to you

out of love.

Its all about baby steps. Did you ever see that movie with Bill Murray and

Dreyfuss. Its very funny but very very true. You should watch that

and have a good laugh. They are hilarious together. But I think many fibro

people are like Bill Murray in that movie. And the end result is amazing.

So, treat yourself with love and treat yourself like you did your children

when they had ADHD as children. Be that kind to yourself. You deserve it.

:)

, Rosemarie is right on target with this.

In AA, even if I don 't love myself 100%, I am encouraged to fake it 'till I

make it " (real).

I was in recovery for another type of problem and one of the other people in the

group had a litany that helped me. I have had what those in my growing up in

public groups call a rich and varied living experience.

This phrase has helped me to make more positive choices for myself and then keep

on practicing making those type of choices on a regular basis.

" I love myself, no matter what " .

What happens with this is I can chose to do the least lethal thing - So drinking

is lethal to me. I can choose to drink any other beverage other than an

alcoholic one. I've had fun with that.

Many prayers and good wishes for all of us.

, how cool on having the tortoises!

BTW, having diarrhea is your body getting rid of the toxins.

So don 't let that scare you. Keep up the healthy fluids. Some of your

discomfort is also your body releasing the toxins to be eliminated.

Tell it what a good body it is LOL. It's trying to cooperate with you.

Re AA meetings- while you aren't working (I couldn't for a few months after

getting off the drugs and alcohol) you can go to as many as there are. Get a

sponsor and begin doing the steps, so you can have a solid recovery. Your

understanding of the steps and what is in the literature will grow over time. I

hope you enjoy this process of recovery.

Also, it might help your family to be in Alanon and Alateen.

I agree with you a doctor's statement that you are sane would be such a perk to

have.

Hi, all, I rarely write but I do read. My fibromyalgia is exacerbated by

chronic nerve pain after two spine surgeries, one with cage. And all this

horrible arthritis. I am in constant pain. The mornings are the worst, getting

out of bed with the fatigue, the stiffness, the pain. I am still working. I

now have to make decision between duragesic patch 25 and/or 37-1/2. Or to take

morphine

30 mcg once a day. ,

Were you on Morphine for pain? Or were you taking it by choice? Why are you

getting off morphine? I really would appreciate an answer. I really don't know

what to do. Thanks, marsha

Thanks Jill, i feel so lucky to have the tortoises,I always feel as though i

have acomplished something when i hand the hatchlings over to start a new

life. When i am dead and gone hopefully they will be around long after me lol.

The runs have stopped at last. When you typed it might help your family to be in

Alanon and Alateen.

I thought you meant my family should move at first when i read it lol, what a

donut i am until i looked it up.Havent got any alcohol cravings, its the doctors

meds doing the bad stuff, trying to go it on my own, have a pretty strong

character.......nearly there but been a very long week. Thanks for your support.

, how cool on having the tortoises!

I agree with you a doctor's statement that you are sane would be such a perk to

have.

reduce demand from the wild.Every penny i made went back into making their lives

Financially i have very little, but emotionally i am a very rich man with my

the meds for FM then by the time i eventually get to see the specialist, i will

be able to accept whatever he offers without complications from this concoction

I,m really pleased the AA worked for you Joanne.I am managing to get off the

meds and feeling better for it slowly. There is no chance i would go back on

them after they are out of my system, that i do know. I haven't even seen my

mother for over 13 years now and my father well i haven't seen him since he was

sent to prison for attempted murder of my mother and never want him back in my

life ever. I hope one day your mother does get the help she needs, but sometimes

people have to do it for themselves, you can drag a camel to water, but you cant

make it drink lol. One day you might get your mother back, i feel for you. Stay

strong, stay off the bad stuff and one day your mother might take a leaf out of

your book and go to AA. Everyday you are strong for yourself, you are there,

ready for your mum as well.

One day it might happen for you and i hope it does happen for you.Until then

enjoy every day as it comes and try to dwell on the good things in life.

Subject: Re: Re: New member saying hi

I know that when i used to ask my mom to attend AA she would get very insulted.

I think she thought that the people there were all 'wino's' that lived on the

streets and had no moral fibre. When i went to AA to ask what I should do about

her drinking they invited me in and i was amazed. They were the most beautiful

people i had ever met. I asked them how have you been able to transform your

lives to the point were ot only are you not abusive but you are so stable and

have so much to give. They said, the time had come when we simply could not

continue with our addictio, we had tried to do it alone, and failed and failed

and failed. Giving up the drink was ot the problem, they had all detoxed over

and over again, it was the staying sober they struggled with.

They advised me to go to Alanon, which i did. There i found lots of people like

myself, some had addiction trouble with food and so on, and others were simply

struggling with depression and anxiety. Basically what they told me was that

where there is dysfunction, drugs, alcohol, gambling what ever there is usually

one person that sinks and recovers and sinks and recovers and several other

people around that person who dances along with them

I know that this was true for me. I so wanted my mom to get well. She would go

on a bender dringking, phoning me up telling me she was desparate and could not

cope, that she was in emotional and physical pain, that she just wanted to end

it all, next she would be sober telling me she was now strong and certainly

would not drink again.

I did actually believe her. She was a good woman and she looked after us well

when she was sober, but something would happen, like somebody going in hospital

or smoething and she could not cope and she would drink again.

When this happened i would feel so bad for her i kow she was ill and could not

help it but as the years went by she began to loose the will to 'give up' and

ended up drunk all the time.

With her drinking a lot of cruelty came. She had no idea how abusive she was,

she could not remember. Then when she was sober (which bega to be rare) she

would change back to that sweet loving person, i so desparately needed in my

life. I stood by my mom for over 20 years with her drinking, believing that one

day she would get well. During that time i developed Fibromyalgia and as i

became more and more poorly the more my moms drinking became very difficult to

cope with

My mom still drinks and she will never go to AA. She says she is not like the

drunkards in there. But like i said earlier the people in AA are not drunkards,

they really are not. They are couragous people who had the backbone to face up

to the fact that they could not give up alcohol and stay sober for more than a

few months or so.

I have many friends that are in AA. These people are a blessing to me. They have

helped me no end with my own addiction problems. There is no way my mom could

help me like these people had. All my mom new was how to drink herself into

oblivion and then sober up for a week or two and then do it all over again. She

would tell me over and over that this time was the last time that she would not

drink again, but she always did.

The people in AA told me that they made the same promises to their families and

did give up for months sometimes, and then one day, for what ever reason they

just drank again. It was only by attending AA that they had achieved long term

soberiety.

I listened eagerly. They taught me thousands of ways to give up and stay off

addictive substances. I now do not smoke, nor drink diet coke around the clock,

drink caffeine or binge on carbs. Before i new these people in recovery i always

went back to my addictions

It is hard to understand how 12 Step meetings can help both the addict and their

family members but they do. They help people understand why they get addicted

and why even though they are strong detemined people they still go back to their

'drug'. The processes involved i this a difficult to understand and i cannot

explain them here, but once the penny drops with this addiction thing,

everything changes and all of a sudden you can go through life without returning

to the substance.

It is not the getting off the stuff that is hard it is the stayig off it

That is a beautiful message from you . You are an example of the

wounded healer I think. You are a healer at heart but your wounds keep you

held back from your calling. Ever thought about that? Are you a healer?

Share that with the world as a goal?

I agree with Joanne. Being in a 12 step program gives us the support and

comfort we did not get from our families or origin. The program also helps

us connect spiritually to whatever we see as a higher power than our small

self. This is a huge source of power and love and compassion.

Also, the PTSD situation is greatly relieved by sharing and caring for

others. PTSD is also helped very much in a surprising way by Dr Sarnos

book the Mindbody Prescription. He helps you get in touch with your

emotions that are lying under the surface of the pain. Those painful

emotions are the PTSD and can be greatly reduced using his methods as well.

But nothing beats the effects of sharing in a group because it is live

communication with other human beings who have a common purpose with you.

Being an addict or alcoholic has nothing to do with a person's character. It has

to do with how our bodies work. I also became drug dependent and an addict due

to pain pills. We do end up with spiritual needs to help us handle these

problems. Believe me, so does everyone else on the planet! LOL.

There are 12-step programs for people with cancer and emotional problems and

relationship problems. Why would anyone think that they are " bad " ? If it's not

fair or reasonable to label them, then take the label off yourself.

For the addictions there is the Narcotics Anonymous - I'm a member of that along

with AA. I hope I can say it firmly and loudly enough: An addict is not a bad

person or a person with poor will power.

What happens in the brain of some people, is that the medication takes up

receptor sites and helps a person to function for awhile. Possibly because our

bodies do not produce the chemicals we need. (Evidenced by ADD and other

conditions etc)

Our brains and bodies are different than people who do not become addicted to

the alcohol or medications. We end up needing more because the meds become

ineffective. It is not a conscious thought on our part to need more - it happens

automatically.

Now, alcohol for anyone can cut us off from our own will power. In many other

areas of our lives, our will power works very well and we can count on it. But

with some meds and especially alcohol something happens in our brain and in our

nervous system (we have receptors all over our bodies) so that a dependency and

addiction occurs. There are books about it. You can find them in your public

library and at the 12 step places.

I can testify to you that Heavenly Father knows what will work best for your

body and will help you. Please remember, the pain MAY not totally go away. Don't

get discouraged by this - whatever burden you have Heavenly Father knows exactly

how to help you live WELL with it. He knows how to prosper you - which means how

to do well in all things. Needing help from Him doesn't mean anything negative

about you. We are His children and He loves to help us.

I have friends in recovery who use but don't abuse narcotic prescriptions. For

myself - I really don't think I can be trusted. So what has worked for me is

some herbal things and a non-narcotic prescription and sometimes even an OTC

medication.

The AA Big Book explains the way to apply spiritual principles to this dilemma.

NA also has a basic text book which also uses the 12 steps and books with

stories of recovery. The people are some of the best I have ever met. In my life

I've met tens of thousands of people - I tend to get myself into groups of

people who are overcoming something.

I get to see courage and the honesty to face things instead of lying to

ourselves. I see people putting energy into their own healing and then being

able to help others. I watch them grow and become the people that they truly are

- that was hidden by the behaviors of trying to find their medications.
