I'm back...

It always amazed me that didn't have any kidney problems b/c of his lack

of swallow in utero. Whenever the doc check via ultrasound his stomach

contents it was always empty so she passed it off as he just peed. Obviously

a gross error given this happened three times and my fluid count was high.

(needless to say I've switched ob's.) So we concluded he wasn't swallowing

effectively in utero. Plus which at birth his chin was so severely recessed

his tongue was just about flipped back and twisted in the back of his mouth.

So, back to my original thought about kidneys is upon neonatal period exams

all checked out fine. But I have come across some kidney problems that

routine tests don't discover and he may not be symptomatic with. It's

associated with another sydrome (charge) and I am going to have him tested.

Please say a prayer that he passes this test!!

Boy am I rambling today. So bottom line is how do these kids ever get

decanulated if they aren't swallowing properly? I am not a big believer in

swallow studies. I think it can be misleading either way. 8 out of ten

swallows may be effective. If you only catch 8 on video and those 2 others

not videoed weren't effective ones they get lost and can be the cause of

aspirating. I don't know. The blue dye test is a sure indicator I think. But

someone once told me that everyone aspirates a litlle, little bit of their

own saliva.....?

Well, that's all for now (that's enough right??)
