Guest guest
Hi June, Boy, it seems like there is no way out of these Urinary Problems. Supposedly, the Urologist is removing the catheter next Monday. If Jim were to keep the catheter on it could give him a horrible UTI, that has happened before with a catheter and if he takes the Flomax, he can still get UTIs. So why am I putting him through all this? I guess it's not too good to have a bladder full of urine that doesn't come out huh! Things were going so well too. I went online to read about Flomax and it says one of the medications it should not be taken with is Cipro and Jim is on Cipro right now. I am still in the middle of nowhere with the medications. I called the Urologist and got his assistant who told me she would give my concerns to the Urologist and she said there is an alternative to Terazosin called, Flomax and she would tell the Urologist. I got a call from the Urologist, but I wasn't home when he called and he wouldn't leave a message and said he would call me tomorrow, that he wanted to talk to me over the phone and not leave a message. I need to talk to him too, so that is good. Since Jim is on Cipro, maybe the only thing he can take is Terazosin, but I want the least dosage. Jim can tell me if he is dizzy. He was complaining of being dizzy all weekend, probably because of the retention. Why does it have to be this medication is also a BP medication!!!! Why couldn't it be some friendly kind of medication for Jim instead of one I know that he will most likely have a reaction to. I think Flomax also has BP medication in it, but not as strong. I know either one of these meds will Zap any strength that Jim might have. Thanks June for letting me know your experience with this medication. It helps with the urine flow, but he still got numerous UTIs even when on it. If I recall, there are some side effects with dizziness, but I could be wrong about that. After all, how does someone with LBD know or can tell you if they are dizzy? He sure couldn't. It is one of the newer meds for urinary retention. Guest guest
Jan: THere is also another med that they use called Uroxatrol (sp). He was given some samples but we never used it. There are also some older meds for urinary retention, but you know doctors - they want the newer, more expensive meds. Can't remember the name of them, but some were used for years. It's kind of like six of one and a half-dozen of another. One might be good for one thing but causes problems for another. Cipro is an antibiotic, isn't it? Darrell took antibiotics with the Flomax, and I know Cipro was given to him at times as well as Levaquin. If it is an antibiotic, don't understand why it can't be used with Flomax. Can you do a drug interaction with the two of them plus the other meds he's on? I just think UTIs as a part of LBD; perhaps the brain can't ascertain when they have voided enough, so the bladder retains it. They said that the urine that is left in there sits and " simmers " with the bacteria that is there. I truly think Darrell had staph infection, and that is really hard to treat. In fact, they told me once he did have it, which I wouldn't wonder comes from the catheters. It's just a play it by ear type of thing, isn't it? Hope he improves.
