Hi Post nasal drip is a symptom of reflux. Are you on anything for reflux? If not, it is probably worth picking something up over the counter to see if it helps. The only other thing I can think of is seasonal allergies. Maybe try something like Allegra or Claritin. However, it really sounds like what I do when my reflux gets out of control.MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Sunday, November 6, 2011 3:49 PMSubject: post nasal drip

I have post nasal drip that is draining down and giving me a feeling of something stuck in my throat. Ive had it before but not this bad..I feel the need to clear my throat constantly..every few minutes...I cant cough up anything and it is now effecting my asthma. I am on antibiotics for an ear infection and medro pak for wheezing..I also am gargling with salt water and doing saline nasal rinse and also taking robintussin per my dr. it gets better for a little while..maybe a few hrs and then back in full force.

is there anything else I can do? has anyone had post nasla drip do this? my nose is clear, no congestion, no runny nose..its just going down.

thanks for any suggestions...jean

I have always had post nasal drip since I'm a kid and finally I went to see an ENT for it and he put me on a prescription nasal spray called Nasacort AQ used once a day and it has been working for me. It also allows me to breathe 24/7 but need to tell you that it has steroid in it. I also have asthma along with several other lung conditions. Is your post nasal drip only during certain times of the year or always because if it's seasonal or weather related you would be better off doing what you're doing. Another thought is to use the Vicks vaporizer because it also helps to clear your passages.Hope you will find something that will work for you. Post Nasal drip is a pain.... I used to buy Vicks menthol cough drops or similar on top of everything also.SharonFrom:gigles_1955 Subject: post nasal dripDate:November 6, 2011 3:49:38 PM ESTTo:asthma I have post nasal drip that is draining down and giving me a feeling of something stuck in my throat. I've also been put on a nasal spray for the same reason. In my case it's an allergic reaction, most likely to something environmental as it cleared up completely when I was on camp in summer, and then got even worse when I returned home. I think it's either dust or mould / mildew. I've been put onto flixonase - don't know if it goes by the same name in America or not.Jenn Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! I have been having those feelings too, where it is stuck in your throat, and you can't cough it up, never had it like that before. I use Flutacasone, it is a generic, of Flonase. I have sinus problems, and they mess up my asthma and my stomach. I have noticed this last year that if my stomach is upset it causes my nasal passages to swell up and clog, and then my asthma kicks in, and then I am upchucking, and now I have gastritis, I already have a hiatal hernia, and stomach problems, which I take Prilosec for. It is getting worse, so I will have to go back to the Gastroenterologist, as well as my Pulmo Dr. It never seems to end. I noticed it happens every time I have been going out on my porch, or out in the car, I think a lot of it is pollen, and road

dust.To: "asthma " <asthma >Sent: Sunday, November 6, 2011 4:16 PMSubject: Re: post nasal drip

I had post nasal drip most of my life, and food allergies, as well as Enviornmental allergies, and food, and chemical allergies, it went along with the sinusitis, and didn't have stomach problems till much later, and then asthma, but, I believe they all irritate each other in different ways for different people. To: "asthma " <asthma >Sent: Sunday, November 6, 2011 4:06

hi Madeline.

can you have reflux without symptoms? I do have allergies but never had post

nasal like this...I forgot to mention I had a sinus infection 3 weeks ago but

that has cleared up as far as the nasal symptoms, head pressure, etc. now it is

just draining downward...could this be from the sinus infection or could I still

have one when I dont have the usual sinus symptoms I normally get? it is so

annoying and I am not sleeping becaus of it. thanks for the help. jean

hi Sharon.

I forgot to mention that I was just put on flonase which also has a steroid in

it..only been using for two days though.

I ususally only get post nasal when I have a sinus infection or at least to

the point where I notice it.. Ill try the vicks. it is a pain..the constant

clearing is driving me and everyone else around me nuts...hey another symptom

that may or may not have anything to do with it but now and then my tongue gets

a very dry feeling like cotton mouth? any ideas if this is related or maybe

from the gargling with salt water and also nasal saline rinses? aahhh. jean

thanks Jenn.

could be environmental...weird weather her in NYS...we're in Nov. and it is

going to be in mid 60s next week..we have had a lot of rain also so maybe mold

is a culprit..just not sure why it never bothered me before like this. jean

wow, thanks Madeline. I will try some otc meds for this and see if it

helps..cant hurt. I do get hiccups but not the other symptoms, well except the

post nasal drip..and now horseness but I think this is from constant clearing of

throat. who would of thought?? thanks again. jean

>

> Absolutely! I have never had heartburn. That is the most obvious symptom,

but it is not the only symptom. There are many more subtle symptoms. These

include hiccups, night time nausea, sore throat, hoarseness, increased asthma

symptoms, post nasal drip, and runny nose. I had no idea all those were gerd

symptoms until about six months ago. Of all people, a speech pathologist told

me, not my gi. All this time I thought I was asymptomatic. I am not. I just

don't have heartburn.

Candida (yeast) is a type of fungus. This website has a lot of info, including

about diagnosis and treatment.

We (Arizona) may be having now what you'll be getting the end of the week. We

got it after it had passed down the west coast and through southern California.

We had a lot of wind (and thick dust) Friday, then rain and much colder

Saturday, then clear but still cold yesterday, and today we're back to rain and

colder yet - high expected in the 50s today. The overnight low tomorrow morning

is supposed to be clear down in the 30s. This is quite a switch after a long

hot summer that lasted clear into October and up through Hallowe'en night.

Most likely what is going on is that your ear is draining. There is a tube that runs from your ear to your throat which keeps the pressure equalized on both sides of your ear drum. If you had otitis media, which is an ear infection of the middle ear, this (eustacian) tube would drain into your throat and give you the symptoms you are describing. Are you feeling an itchy like sensation high up in the back of your throat?

Post nasal drip/drainage is a warning sign for me that my asthma is about to flare...some things I do to help get rid of it are the salt water gargles, sinus rinses, take guaifensin (Mucinex, robitussin are both name brands of this but I find the Mucinex (or store brand equivalent) works much better for me). Someone else suggested Vicks and I do that as well. Drink extra fluids (as in never let your cup get empty if you can help it), preferably hot b/c that increases humidity inside your throat and the warmth/humidity helps thin the secretions. I also have a never ending supply of cough drops...vicks/halls that I suck on.

As the infection clears up, you should notice a decrease in the drainage. You could also have some residual gunk in your sinuses that is coming down too...

I hope you feel better soon.....
