What does it mean if you have rings all the way down your esophagus? Have mild gastritis caused by medication (I take no pills)? Just curiousLynneTo: asthma group <Asthma >Sent: Sunday, September 25, 2011 8:06 PMSubject: Lynne

As far as I know everybody has rings all the way down their esophagus. That's

the means by which things we swallow are delivered into our stomachs. They are

rings of muscle around the esophagus, and the act of swallowing starts them

contracting in sequence. The topmost ring contracts and forces what we

swallowed down to the ring below it, and that one contracts and forces it down

another notch, and so forth, until whatever we swallowed arrives in the stomach.
