Pam,

Others have said their MD suggested Bonine (NOT DRAMAMINE) which is an Over the

Counter, that I might try before I would go to Prescription drugs. I just

always stayed away from Prescriptions when I could.

Hi Pam,

There are LO's on this board who have had a bad time with diazepam and

drugs of that kind and then there a few who seem to be OK with a low

dose. One thing to keep in mind is that you may get a rebound anxiety

effect - meaning that this drug is usually prescribed for anxiety type

conditions and it can actually make the anxiety worse. Also, if your

mom is going to take it and then stop in the future then please stop it

gradually as it is an adictive drug and your mom's body will go through

withdrawls if taken away too quickly.

Best,

Courage

Pam-

Yes, Vaium or apam can be very helpful in some condition that result in

vertigo/dizzines. HOWEVER, my Dad, before he was dx'd with LBD, was given

Valium after surgery in the hospital. He was so bad that they called my

daughter and I, both nurses, to come sit with him in the hospital. They kept

him in ICU when his medical condition did not warrent him being there, but they

did not know what to do with this postop patient who was totally off the wall.

After Dad was dx'd with LBD, I realized it was his reaction to the valium. On

another occasion, Dad was given Morphine 1mg. after a fall and was knocked out

for days. Take my advice, you really have to ve very careful when medicating a

person with LBD. Tylenol was the only drug that I felt comfortable giving to my

Dad.

Hello,

Can anyone tell me if you've had any experience with epam and LBD?

I met with a respite caregiver agency today to see about getting

someone to stay with Mom a few hours at a time, when I need to be

gone. This caregiver recommended we ask Mom's doctor about epam

(which is generic Valium) for relief of the constant dizziness Mom has

had for over 4 years. This caregiver experienced dizziness for three

years herself and it was immediately relieved with epam. She said

vets use it for " circling disease " in cats and it always works well

for that, too.

I just want to be sure about any bad/complicating side effects with

LBD before I pursue it. Mom is on no other medications except

Synthroid at this time.

Thanks for any info anyone can give.

Pam

Thank you Courage and Gerry for your advice about epam. We are

going to see Mom's doctor tomorrow, so I will inquire about it, but

am rather hesitant to try it, also. I did get the Bonine this

morning and she took one pill and slept almost all day long...and

the box said it would make her less drowsy!
