Guest guest
Madeline --Fortunately, the doctor prescribes the Prednisone in dose packs that distribute the medication over a one week only. But I think he's received it intravenously twice this year in the hospital an addition to twice from the same doctor. I am aware of the negative side affects; wish my husband was aware too. Hi Judy,Prednisone. Oh the drug I love to hate. If he is taking short bursts of prednisone (less than a week long) there should be no long term effects. It is dangerous when taking a higher than natural (over 15mg) long term. To answer your question, the doctor is my husband's primary care physician. When Bob was hospitalized, a pulmonary specialist visited him several times and ordered treatment. He have Bob his card and told him to call the office. We assumed that Bob would be given an appointment. However the office phoned and said the specialist wanted Bob to return to his primary care physician. Possibly, the specialist didn't want to take a new patient who has Medicare part A and B, but not secondary insurance. Bob plans to enroll this month in the same Medicare Advantage plan that I have. Then he can consult an in-network pulmonary specialist and ask for a written plan to control his asthma.Last night, after two days of mild coughing, Bob used the inhaler one time before going to bed. We will see whether this prevents the cough from escalating. This year he was hospitalized with asthma attacks once in May and once in September, and went to Urgent Care recently. Up till now, he has been unwilling to accept that cough medicine won't help asthma, and expects that the long-term effects of the prednisone he is prescribed will be long-term. However, he is now more willing to listen to information. Judy K
