Guest guest
Hi Helen: It appears you and I are a few with thoughts on this story. lol I found the comments at the end of the article to be interesting. Why should any parent have to pay $32,000.00 a month for a placement for their child with autism? What is wrong with this system? What are they getting for the $32,000.00 a month? What training does this staff have for this price tag? I think they are all valid questions. This tragedy has high lighted parents plight with family members with autism that require a life time of support that is rarely available with a trained staff. For years autism was thought of as a disability with no cure and hence no monies were thrown into educating professionals on a disability that was untreatable. Why bother? Lock them away! Fast forward to today. We now believe that with the right support we can enhance children and adults with autism and their lives and families. But it takes money and awareness which is scarce these days, so it is families that keep advocating and trying to break down barriers by going public with their stories, hoping to make a difference in some one else's life. Just me.
