Hi,

As a mom of four all my kids are different. I breast fed and also

supplemented with formula. My son use to spit up on formulas,

until I switched him to Good Start. It was gentle on his stomach like

breast milk. I know I sound like the commercial LOL.

My daughter, Kayla, is 4 months old and she does not just spit up but

she will really throws up her formula. She has been doing this ever

since she was born and at first I thought it might be the formula so I

switched to Soy based but she still does it. She probably throws up at

least 3-4 times a week. My pediatrician, who does not specialize in

down syndrome children, says its just normal but I dont remember my son

ever throwing up like this. I was just wondering if anyone else had

the same issue and if so do they have any suggestions on what I can

do. I just feel bad for Kayla because it really scares her when it

happens.

I breastfeed and supplemented also. We had spit up about 3-4 times a week

aswell. my son is now 7 months old and seems to only have the spit up when he

eats the commercial baby food. I make his baby food most of the time and he

seems to do great with it no matter the texture. I dont know if it is the DHA in

the baby food or what because those are the only ones I have bought to feed him

other than homemade. We do better on Soy as did all three of my boys but Truett

is the only one that spit up like this. He also has some reflux with it at

times. But by in large it is still on the normal side for the amount he spits

up. He also spit up with breastmilk just not as often and it was less offensive

than formula. lol.

My Hannah was a " projectile " tosser when she threw up. we came to find this

comes from her MDS as does her chronioc constipation. being she was never

diagnosed with MDS until after her leukemia diagnosis at age 3 we never put two

and two together.. she only did that from birth until age 1- 1 1/2 then it

calmed down. she can throw up allot when she is sick now but thankfully makes it

to the bathroom! she is having issues now they are checking into with mild

choking or Dysphagia, she needs to see a Gastroenterologist dr to have a special

scope done to see if she has narrowing or acid reflux issues. among seeing now a

neurologisit for possible seazures. hope this helps. Holly mom to Hannah 8,

MDS/MTDS and Blakely 16, mild ADHD.

Just a side note:

Please take note that lots of kids do this and do not have Ds or MDS. So, even

though a doctor may link it to MDS or Ds, they do not have actual scientific

proof that the actual chromosome is what is causing this, since it does happen

for a large majority of babies who have no other issues at all.

In most cases, this will just stop on its own, but as always it is best to

talk with your doctor to not only rule out any problems, but also to just calm

any fears you may have.

my two cents.

I agree a fellow Dr friend of mine has a non ds infant who is 4 months old and

he vomits regularly and is now on medication for reflux. He also doesnt sleep

very well at all. So I just look at my happy little guy that sleeps like a log

all night and always has, and think man whats wrong with that kid! LOL I think

to much emphasis gets put on trying to label things as a result of the DS or

MDS. My baby is a baby first and dont tell me if he has a problem it is related

to the ds unless you can prove it. I am not talking about the average things. I

am talking about how medical professionals can jump on the Oh its because of the

DS train. Maybe I am just being obstinate but I want my child to be treated for

his needs not because of his condition.
