Guest guest
Dear Tracie: I understand you perfectly. I also sympathize with your child who experienced that Miralax had adverse effects on him and even may have affected your child's health and maybe his life. That is the reason for your reaction and I would also have the same reaction if that happened to me. The important thing is to be able to research further why this has proved effective for the child of Jack and others while it has had adverse effects on your child and other peoples' children. For those who have experienced the effectiveness of Miralax, maybe we should discuss further and help each other to find out why this has been so. Therefore, I also sympathize with Jack and his opinion because in his opinion Miralax was a lifesaver for lack of any other options to do. All of us are looking for better ways to combat constipation and I believe we can and should help each other in this regard. Thanks. o M. The description of the group is that we are discussing the adverse (a synonym for negative) reactions to the medication. To expect anything positive is wrong. Maybe some people post some positive things, but you can't expect it and you being angry about it, calling us zealots with a negative connotation is wrong. So you are wrong, Jack. We are here to discuss the negative affects of Miralax and alternatives to help constipation. Period. End of story. --Tracie "Team China!"---- Jack Gershon wrote: I haven't minimized anything. Nor have I disputed the truth of anyone'sexperiences.I haven't challenged anyone here on how they care for their children.I am continually trying alternatives to eliminate Miralax. I have posted onthe limited successes I have had from recipes I found on this forum.I have challenged assumptions and conclusions made here (e.g. PeG beingAntifreeze)My concern is that people like myself come looking for information on PeG,find this forum, and get a very biased view from people who have very strongand personal reasons to hate Miralax and have a strong distrust of doctors. So I shared my experience and opinion, and have received negative backlashfor it. (On a positive note, I received an email from one parent who lurkshere who thanked me for my post.) >>Polyethylene Glycol might as well be Agent Orange or DDT" (your postbelow). You have no right to negate that...I have every right to argue that Miralax isn't Agent Orange or DDT. Thedocumentation supporting the claims on this forum are so limited and fewthat an argument could be made that all of the cases listed are flukes oraberrant data. I AM NOT MAKING SUCH AN ARGUMENT. My point is that theforum presents PeG definitely as a poison that will ruin your life if youuse it. This forum scared the heck out of me when I read the content here.I have since done my own research and it is MY BELIEF that the threat fromusing PeG is significantly lower than what I was led to believe by what Ihave read here.I have not implied that anyone here blindly follows this forum. I'm a good parent who is trying to do the best I can for my son. I wasscared by this forum, did my homework, formed my own opinion, shared myexperiences and information, and helped people by doing so.No one here has to agree with me. I understand being angry that your child has special needs. I am plentyangry that my child wasn't born perfect. I asked for a doctor's advice during the pregnancy and made a decision basedon that advice. Could things be different if I made a different decision?Maybe. I'll never know.I'm done arguing. Really. If you don't like what I have to say, that iscool. But you can't tell me I am wrong. No more than I can say any of youare wrong (which I don't believe any of you are.)See you in the funny papers! _____ From: miralax [mailto:miralax ] On Behalf OfCarl and TracieSent: Tuesday, September 08, 2009 1:25 AMTo: miralax Cc: Jack GershonSubject: RE: Just a little Miralax? Jack,You bet I am a zealot! When it comes to my children, I will do anything toprotect them, including joining a forum whose description from the intropage includes: "This board originated as a board for those who have had, ortheir children have had, significant adverse reactions to, or adverse eventsafter starting Miralax or Glycolax." Which means that those of who joinedare going to discuss the adverse reactions to Miralax, hence all the"negativity." The adverse reactions we or our children have experienced are"our" fact - these things actually happened in our lives."For people reading this forum, Polyethylene Glycol might as well be AgentOrange or DDT" (your post below). You have no right to negate that. Some ofthe experiences we've lived through are horrible and have ruined some lives.Again, I go back to the description of the forum - to discuss the adversereactions of Miralax. The intro to this forum also suggests that members donot take experiences or suggestions as medical advice. We all have our ownways to deal with the constipation in our lives (whether personal or ourchild's) and many of us choose to NOT use Miralax. If you are so happy withit, great! Go for it - I wish you and your child the best. However, bewarned...some of the adverse reactions we've experienced happened later inour Miralax use. Not all happened immediately. I am NOT saying these WILLhappen to your child, I'm saying just be aware. That said, do not post that we are zealots in a negative way, you have noright to minimize our experiences or struggles and you have no right toquestion how we care for our children. I think you imply that some of ushere just take the word of the forum - many of us do a lot of research, questioning and trial and error. We are all concerned for our kids becauseof the adverse reactions we've seen our children experience. You said in one of your posts that you are not "the most sensitive guy." Inmy opinion, I think that's putting it mildly. Good luck. --Tracie "Team China!"---- Jack Gershon <jackgershon (DOT) <mailto:jack%40gershon.cc> cc> wrote: Some of you guys are zealots....Like I said, lots of negativity.I stated my opinion. Adverse effects from mixedmeds...No surprise. The views some of you have is well and good, but I am entitled to my view aswell.Yvette, keep working on your dateline interview. The physicians are not provided with the information that is accurate. You'll have to wait for 20/20 or Dateline to do a story beforeyou'll find it.Please also explain to me why on the label of Miralax it states DO NOT GIVETO CHILDREN.Yvette A. Just a little Miralax? So my 15month old son has been constipated for three months (goes every 4-5days, hard and large like delivering a baby). I've tried many things(probiotic, diet - no milk except yogurt, no grains except sprouted, prunes, flax and olive oil, etc), chiro and acupuncture/ pressure/ chinese herbs(which helped a bit). I'm worried about the "stretched out colon" everyseems to talk about here or any other long term/developmental effects thatthe constipation will cause. I am wondering if I should do Miralax for ashort while (all drs have rec, but have not used yet bc of this board).
