Guest guest
Is it a good thing? Ah well, if it were ever possible to define Aspergers clearly, consistently and accurately, then it would have to be a bad thing and totally unnecessarily. But and it’s the big but, there is really just too big a range of symptoms and pointers that show up among persons diagnosed with AS, for this to be done. Just maybe, in view of the opinion that many of us have about Aspergers, - that if it were possible to ‘see into the heads’ of all the Aspies in the world, then we might find a few common denominators that could allow a single specific diagnosis. But at this stage of the game, all we (and those clever devils of Psychs) can detect and define about these Aspies, are just too big a set of variations, and largely outer expressions of habit and psychological eccentricities. On the surface, and thinking logically, I would say that it is probably a good thing for the purposes of diagnosis to lump us in as variants of Autism. Having said that, though, I must admit that I should (and shall?) be sad to see the proud defining term of Aspergers just disappear. A broad and general common label of Autistics somehow doesn’t feel quite right. I’m glad I don’t have to be personally responsible for the change in term there.
