Guest guest
Hello all, would like to comment on the Act of God discussion. Seems to me that the cause of death is life. Eventually we all go, and no man before his time. Biological systems that overpopulate tend to be trimmed. The most beautiful butterfly lives briefly. Trees drop leaves, flowers droop, favorite pets, who generally have a most positive attitude, leave us much too early. When I was twenty-eight, at my mother's funeral, one of her oldest friends came up to me and said, " Death is not the worst thing that can happen to a person. " I understood that statement and have never forgotten it. It can be very difficult to loose a loved one but my feeling is we are wasting our time worrying about the dead, they are home free and we are left to clean up and carry on. I am currently reading a good book, Healing Words, by Dr Larry Dossey, MD. This is a book on prayer and the use of words to heal. He discusses the unfortunate current tendency to blame ourselves or the sick person in a most ego driven way. He also discusses the fact that animals meet various fates and illness and we certainly don't blame them. Interestingly many avatars and saints have met with terrible deaths and illnesses. Dossey recommends praying for others and shows clearly how the energy of prayer can influence people, plants and even bacteria. Personally I have a feeling that in the big picture the earth can heal itself and we are just along for the ride. Choices do matter but only to the extent of our biology. Is dying in a tsunami with thousands of others any different than dying in an auto accident, a war, or in our own bed? Modern life has given us a false sense of control and I suspect we grieve so for the big events as they point out rather clearly that we are not in the drivers seat. Thoughtfully, Kathy
