I just wondered if you have had any lifestyle changes or diet changes that could have helped this process.

It would be good to see your PSA changes over the last couple of years, if you don't mind sharing this with us.

I understand very well the wish to hold back the cancer by using treatment with minimum side effects.

I read his letter with an open mind, and I still like to feel that I do have an open mind. But I also am from an old school, and that old school tells me that if you got poison in you like a sliver of wood or whatever, get it out. When I got the news that I had it I did research like crazy not knowing which way to go. At work 10 men had it, two had the radioactive seeds they did not make it. three did the heath drug thing with all of these super health drugs like essence of dandelion or whatever. One did not make it the other two are going to try something else. Two had the plain radiation treatments and after 2 or 3 years have to go back again for more radiation. Three, myself included, opted for the operation, one about 7 years ago, had to have the radiation also and had radiation last year again. He seems very happy with the results and is looking for retirement. The other was 5 years ago, operation and he has been free since. Sure him and his wife have to do different planning sometimes but he is very happy, considering his option. Me, it has been 1 year since my operation and so far, clean and I am living just about a normal life, with some planning, :-) . This was I choice that I made and I have not looked back, but I also understand that everyone has a different outlook on things. I know that when I got the word I was never so F________G scared in all my life, but I sat down, gave it a lot of thought, went back to my old school ways and made my decision.

Sorry for the rant, I just hope I help somebody.

I hope this post extends your information

You are right that if there is a chance of a cure it is good to go with it.

Unfortunately there are some whose attempts at a cure don't work or who cannot have the chance of an operation, there are others with low grade tumours who wait and monitor to try to put off the potential side effects of treatment .

Being a general group we have a mixture of all situations

I rejoice with the ones who have had curative treatment and have not had recurrence but share a wish with the others that we can slow down the progress by any shape or form.

Stay posting your jopyful message it is good to hear it.

Hey there Bill!

I just read your note and had to respond. Your situation seems to

reflect mine in a lot of ways. Especially of how you felt when you

found out and what you did with all of the info your research turned

up. I did the RP 2 weeks ago today and just today got my catheter

out and am getting ready for the rest of my life. It's actually gone

better than I had imagined and I am feeling pretty good right now.

And that's even tho I am dribbling a little bit which I am told will

get better.

The more I read notes like yours and the more I think about it, I

made an ecellent decision and would encourage anyone faced with the

choice to consider the RP first. Thanks.......Tom
