My gastro always gives me the feeling like he wishes I would use another doctor and meanwhile I don't see him that often; it's just that there isn't much that he can do for me other than to tell me to go to a nutritionist. I haven't gone that route yet but will once my other problems settle down. Anyway you're so right. Caffeine also is known to help to prevent alzheimer's, some cancers and other things but I can't go near it because of the sjogren's, lupus, the meds I'm on and then the clincher, the acid reflux - in fact because of the pulmonary hypertension my cardiologist told me to stay away from all caffeine but then my rheumy told me that I can have one cup of tea. I really won't know anything until this PH doctor either tests me or tells me what I can or cannot do. I do get tired of eating salads with no dressing, tired of eating chicken cultlets or salmon with no seasoning and so on but when I am able to have a good day without stomach problems or gerd my mind is made up. If you can figure out a new way of eating please let me know (smile). Sharon From:"willothewispl@..." I am having a tough time tonight also, my Hiatal hernia, an my asthma are really acting up tonight, also think I picked up a chest cold. Right now I don't give a _ _ _ _ about anything else. So miserable,so, you're not alone. To: asthma group <Asthma >Sent: Saturday, August 13, 2011 7:58 PMSubject: Think I'll just starve. No doc loves me, every doc hates me, guess I'll have to starve (to the tune of guess I'll go eat worms). I am about to pull out my hair with all this dietary restriction stuff. Between the asthma, GERD, and kidney stones (steroid caused)..... Caffeine is good for asthma but bad for the GERD, the urologist tells me to get all the citrus I can, but the GERD diet says no. I am hitting contradictions every which way I turn. I really want to eat right, but no matter what I eat it will aggravate something else. Catch 22. So, I am going to try to eat in a healthy moderation. One thing I know is not going to happen is cutting caffeine. Coffee has kept me out of the ER more than once. It also really helps with the albuterol side effects. I will limit it to when I am really struggling, but I am not going to cut it out. I am just going to work to try to find a balance. This is one of those times that I really wish I were not asymptomatic with the GERD. Just a little heartburn here and there would help me determine the path. Madeline
