Guest guest
Sherry, I sent an e-mail to you a few days ago, but don't think it went. I'm having lots of computer problems and waiting for grandson to come and help fix them. It's been a long wait. In one of your posts, you mentioned that you have gastroparesis, and as I have had stomach/digestive problems for many years, I googled it and found that it really describes my problem. I have had four abdominal surgeries as well as radioactive iodine to destroy thyroid gland. Several years ago, I had an especially bad stomach virus, and it was around that time that I noticed things were getting worse. I also have fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome, both of which are mentioned. Have tried numerous prescription drug, and nothing helps. You mentioned you took an herbal remedy, and I was wondering what it was. I am so tired of this, and often it strikes me unexpectedly, so I have to cancel plans to do something or just not make plans until I see how I feel at that time. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Guest guest
Hi June, no I didn't get your email... I take digestive enzymes with every meal I eat to help start the food breaking down since it sits in my esophagus for so long...I also suck on pure ginger " candies " (it's an acquired taste - not sweet like candy), and use cascara segrada with senna to help keep things moving through. Interestingly enough, the gastroenterologists at U of M that I saw (I saw 2 of them) said NOT to drink excessive water. They told me that there's a " 8 glasses a day " bandwagon that's been so vocal that it's become accepted but that there is no medical reason to drink that much, and no peer-reviewed research to support all the claims that it's necessary. They also told me that, in my case, drinking when I'm not thirsty could be dangerous since we swallow as much air as we do liquid when we drink, and since my passages are blocked by slow-moving food so much of the time, I can't afford to have air inside that can't pass through. I also have learned to avoid gassy foods, and carbs also cause me distress as they're breaking down...I eat a lot of proteins and fats and non-gassy vegetables, occasionally fruit as well. Interesting stuff. His, Sherry www.owly.net daughter of , (mis?)diagnosed with AD in 2005, descent slowed by Aricept; diagnosed with LBD March 2008, in a wonderful NH 1/2 mile from my house. Guest guest
I have told the doctors I can't even drink a full glass of water without feeling nauseated. I think this answers that questions. I also am supposed to take my Synthroid first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and it makes me nauseated, but perhaps it's the water that's doing it rather than the Synthroid. THe 8 glasses of water have not been possible for me. Also, the fresh fruits and vegetables tear me up. I have tried a few digestive enzymes but haven't noticed a big difference. Perhaps not long enough. The doc told me to try Advantage (I think), and it didn't work, nor did Domperidon or something like that. Reglan is suggested, but I can't sleep when I take that. I have a high carb diet, because sometimes all I can eat is toast or bread and cheese. I'll try some more options, but right now, there are so many foods I can't eat, I just get so discouraged. Thanks for the infor - if you have anything else that works, let me know. > > Subject: Re: Digestive Proglems/OT > To: LBDcaregivers > Date: Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 9:37 AM > Hi June, no I didn't get your email... > > I take digestive enzymes with every meal I eat to help > start the food > breaking down since it sits in my esophagus for so long...I > also suck on > pure ginger " candies " (it's an acquired taste > - not sweet like candy), and > use cascara segrada with senna to help keep things moving > through. > Interestingly enough, the gastroenterologists at U of M > that I saw (I saw 2 > of them) said NOT to drink excessive water.
