Guest guest
Hi Erwin: Well sounds like things are moving along really well for you. Congrats on all the good readings and happenings in your diabetic life. By the way " toe fungus " I have that also on my big toe and I have been having a heck of a time getting rid of it. I am on meds that cost $100 and some dollars a month and am on it for a period of three months at a time. This is the third time I am on it. I think this time if it does not clear completely up I will go on an additional three months immediately. At the end of three months it is almost gone and then treatment is discontinued. Man I have tried everything - health store stuff; dermatologist specialist; pills and ointment. Well enough of my " toe " stuff. Just wanted you to know that it might not be the walk in the park to clear up that you think. hehehehe Now you can't say I'm not the bearer of bad news. Have a wonderful day. Lizbeth Re: A Good Thing Hi Everybody: Since things are slow on the list, I thought that I would give you an update that is positive. I went to see my CDE yesterday, the first time in six months. Although, I do FAX her my blood glucose readings every two weeks and then she follows up the Faxes with calling me and we discuss my progress. Anyhow, Diabetes wise, everything is moving along nicely. I have lost 48 pounds on Kaiser's Diet, which I believe is similar to the ADA diet. I went to my regular doctor on November 22 and the only health problems I have currently are dandruff and toenail fungus. Since diagnosis for Diabetes in April even my allergies and hay fever have not bothered me, not even a cold, flu or sore throat. In November, my HbA1c was 4.7. Cholesterol was excellent with the HDL/LDL levels looking good too. I have been unemployed since November 5th, but have been walking at least 90 minutes every day. (I am retired from the Post Office, and was only working part time. Looking forward to returning to my job by March.) I have not been at this weight for over 35 years. I now weigh 168 and want to get to 165. I feel wonderful. I live in Southern California and, finally, we are getting some rain. Up until today, we only had half an inch of rain this season. Hope everyone is having a good week. Erwin ---------------------------

Guest guest
Lizbeth: My doctor said that he could give me medication to clear up the toe fungus. He said, however, that it might take up to a year of taking it and that there might be side effects. I wanted to try other things first. He told me to use a topical anti fungal called Clotrimazole that is used for athlete's foot treatments. I said " Should I follow the instructions on the container. " He said that these instructions are not on the container. In fact, the container says " Will not work on toenail fungus. " Anyhow, he said that putting it on the toenails twice a day for a year would clear it up. I did that for two months, and then read in the newspaper in a column called The Peoples Pharmacy that applying Vicks Vapo Rub to toenails daily would cure it so I switched to that around two weeks ago and will wait a month or two to see if that works better. If it doesn't, I go back to the anti fungal. Toenail fungus is more of a cosmetic thing than anything else. It doesn't hurt or anything. Erwin PS: the reason I decided to try Vicks Vapo Rub was even the generic form of clotrimazole was very expensive. I found a four ounce bottle of generic Vicks Vapo Rub at the 99 cents store. Guest guest
You can bet the farm that I am going to try a couple of the things you mentioned. Nail fungus may not hurt etc but, it will eventually lift the nail off from what I understand - and us being diabetic we can't afford to let anything get out of control on our feet. Talk to you again and, again, thanks for the input any little bit of knowledge helps. Lizbeth Re: Re: A Good Thing Lizbeth: My doctor said that he could give me medication to clear up the toe fungus. Guest guest
Ellen: You are not going to believe this but I have also used that stuff you are talking about. I thought it was helping but then it seemed to stop. Good luck to you - I hope it works for you because it is expensive enough but, the meds are out of sight. Guest guest
I'd also consider liquid stabilized oxygen - it's a product I've been using for about 5 years that is very effective on the anaerobic bacteria that cause things like toe fungus. I use it for lots of things, from bee stings and burns to general immune system boosting. But tea tree oil is pretty good too...I use a melaleuca-based mouthwash that's alcohol free that I love. I've also used pau d'arco (taheebo) topically for infections. Kramer Re: Re: A Good Thing Lizbeth: My doctor said that he could give me medication to clear up the toe fungus. Guest guest
My toe nail lifted yo and came off. No pain...and there was a new nail underneath. Looks ok to me, but of course, you realize I am still almost blind! LOL! Guest guest
After listening to you guys I am glad that I have not tried to let this problem go away by itself - it is obvious is will not and that it can lead to bigger problems. Thanks. Lizbeth Re: Re: A Good Thing My toe nail lifted yo and came off. No pain...and there was a new nail underneath. Looks ok to me, but of course, you realize I am still almost blind! LOL!
