Guest guest
People in this group have been extremely helpful, I appreciate this very much. It is now 3 weeks since my father's last dose of Respiridone. He is improving, e.g. today he was able to feed himself for the first time since receiving Respiridone. He is on Seroquel, Celexa, and Trazodone, along with a blood thinner and cholesterol drug. He has hit several staff members at the hospital, and sometimes he makes threats. He had no history of violence before this catastrophic decline, and now and then he gets extremely disraught and sobs about having hurt people. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to do about the violence? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Guest guest
Kathy, I always got mad when they reported Mom acting out as if it were her fault. I reminded them their staff needed training. Mom's biggest issue was fear, and I think that is an issue for many our LBD people. They don't have any way to protect themselves. So they revert to the only way they can. His staff need some training on how to allow him time to register it when they are going to do something and to talk him through it, and be patient with him This is NOT how most aides work. The good staff will call out while they are working with someone else that your Dad will get his bath/or whatever, next, so his brain can register it. They haven't figured out how to make him safe and their work easier. If we only had a " patience " vaccine for staff. LOL And it would make the staff's life easier. Hurry doesn't work with these people. THey know what is happening and don't know how to get any of their own control over the situation. That is just my opinon and take it for what it is worth. I always use to explain, as kindly as I could, if Mom were " responsible, " she wouldn't need to use their facilities. I am not sure if they ever got it. But I wouldn't let them blame her. And they sure wanted to blame her. PS. You might get them to try gum with you Dad, I think that is such a neat solution. Hugs, Donna R Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in a nh. She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.
