Guest guest
Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone could shead any further light on a case I'm treating. A young female student aged 21. Diabetis diagnosed 7-8 years ago. Initially on 26 units insulin p.d. for a year then down to 12 and this has been her dose since. She was also diagnosed boarderline hyperthyroid one year ago. She had previously been under a Chinese practitioner 8 months after the initial diagnosis. He had treated her for 6 mths and following this she took an Ayurvedic mix. BD-Care (containing Fenugreek, Neem and bitter gourd etc) for aprox. one year. She was currently taking R40 homeopathic mix from India (Acidum phosoricum, Arsenicum album, Lycopodium, Natrium sulficum, Phaseolus nanus, Secale cornufum, Uranium nitricum) for tour months and a homeopathic liver/gallbladder mix. (Carduus, Chelidonium, China, Cholesterinum, Colocynthin, Lycopodium, Nux vom) She hadn't noticed any evident difference since taking this. I suggested she stopped taking this simply so that the picture wasn't obscured as to how she responded to my treatment Her diet was sonmewhat alarming. If her sugar levels were low she has a chocolate bar (e.g. after 1-2 mile walk) and has this every alternate day. Variations to this would be ice cream, cake or custard. She drinks 1-2 cappuccinos per day without sugar together with a bagel and banana. Other drinks are Lychee juice and sugar free Ribena and half a glass of milk in the evenings. During the consultation she figited constantly with her hands and her examination of her nails showed them to be bitten down. I recommended Chamomile tea for period pains she was experiencing. I also gave her a list of foods for her pancreas and recommended a box scheme for organic veg. I also suggested seaweeds for her thyroid and to reduce brassica and soya. She had previously tried Stevia and didn't like it. I gave her Magnesium citrate 150mg x3 p.d. and a liquorice juice stick to try. My prescription per week was Galega 20, Gymnema 20, Curcuma 10, Iris 10, Chionanthus 10, Hydrastis 2.5. Tarax rad 7.5, Trigonella 10, Ocimum sanctum 10 x 5ml tds ac. After one week her mother phoned to say her blood sugar had dropped to 2 in the evenings and had risen to 10 in the mornings. This had never happened before, in the past it had never risen more than up to 5 in the mornings. I advised she wrote a list of her daily food and drink intake and to strictly avoid sugar and sugary foods. After one month she was much better though had been up and down with her blood sugar for 2-3 weeks. Her blood sugar had gone right down to 1 once in the evenings and the highest in the mornings was 14. She had reduced her insulin from 12 to 10. The prescription was repeated 2 months - sometimes her blood sugar was up in the evenings and again sometimes 14 in the mornings. Insulin was down to 8 but this caused the levels to rise in the mornings. II changed the prescription slightly increasing Galega and Gymnema to 25ml pw. and omitting the Trigonella and Hydrastis. 3 months - No real change from last time. Still resistant to taking Stevia. Adaptogens like Rhodiola recommended by someone on NIMH forum and to check her adrenal status. 4 months - She has done adrenal status tests and all appears O.K. She has reduced the medicine and has only been taking half the dose because she feels it is making things worse. Any suggestions please?
