Guest guest
I don't often do OB/GYN screenings (this may actually be my second or third of this type) so here goes ... My question is re: " false-negative " (hyphen??). The pt has a 1 in 1511 Down syndrome risk based on nuchal translucency, PAPP-A and free beta HCG. Trisomy-18 risk is 1 in >10,000. The pt is aware of the 10% " false-negative " rate for Down syndrome. Her decision regarding amniocentesis will be made after her 18-week ultrasound. We recommend that she return to us for our a genetic ultrasound with cardiac outflow views to complete and optimize noninvasive risk assessment for aneuploidy and structural malformations. We recommend maternal serum AFP for open neural tube defect screening. " If anyone can see any corrections that need to be made here, I'd appreciate it. Doc is pretty clear but I'm not all that familiar with this ... YET! Thanks to all, W.

" > Hi : I don't do OB/Gyn, but in the case of false negative, in the instance you cite it would be hypenated because the two words join to become an adjective for " rate. " I think there's a better way of expressing this " rule, " but that's the gist of it. Also, in the first sentence that starts " We recommend . . . " you have " return to us for our a genetic ultrasound. " I think you'll want to remove either the " our " or the " a " before genetic ultrasound. As I said, I'm no gyn expert, but if no one else is working tonight, I hope I've been some help. Jayni
