( & interested others),

Firstly, thanks for the reference. I shall look it up with great interest. Colleagues asking about low dose chemo may also be interested.

I am taking 100mg daily & am also still on Zoladex plus 50 mg Casodex daily. The Cyclophosphamide is a chemo agent which, when used in continuous low doses, has been shown to reduce PSA in 50% or so of Ca P sufferers. I am now in my third month & my last PSA suggested it was stabilising. I will get the result of the latest by telephone next week!

I have experienced no side effects from this BUT since starting it I have had Salmonella, a bad cold & Shingles. As someone who usually keeps good health I wonder if my immune system has taken a jolt. That apart, my consultant at St s was very pleased with the stabilisation of my PSA which was previously doubling over four months & I am not due there again until February - unless my PSA has misbehaved when I get it next week. If it is still in the 50s or lower that would be acceptable.

, you asked about New Scientist. Occasionally it has articles about prostate cancer & cancer generally which has a relevance to Ca P. These are usually extracts from specialised scientific journals, British & American or occasionally elsewhere. I find these useful to read for research information in a form I can understand.

With so much going on now in the prostate cancer world, on both sides of the Atlantic & beyond, I think that we can all have some hopes for the future which would have been unreasonable only a few years ago. Consequently, very best wishes to everyone in the Group for 2004. , Mid-Wales

I have heard that dexamethasone, ( I now call it Dexy's Midnight Runner

- very energising), alone will reduce PSA and one study says it may

help re-activate Zoladex.
