Why is it people believe the unbelievable? Here and elsewhere I see references to quackery such as Chiropractic and people who claim they can speak with the dead. Dig into the wherewithal of Chiro and you'll come up against silly notions such as subluxations -- thought to be the genesis of all disease. Yet this notion is based on nothing more than the moronic ramblings of Chiropractic's founder, with not a jot of science -- read evidence -- in sight. My therapist gave me the URL of a website he thought might be helpful for me to read. It's a site to do with Borderline Personality Disorder, and among the books the site's owner recommends to visitors is one by Sylvia Browne, a fraud and charlatan who claims to be able to communicate with the dead. To those with more than a modicum of intelligence, check out http://stopsylvia.com/home/ for some evidence of just how low some humans can go in pursuit of the almighty dollar. Read up on the Hornbeck case in particular.People, life is difficult enough as it is. I prefer to live in an evidence-based world while all around me folks are having their "chakras" aligned, paying the likes of Browne $800 a pop to have her play the oldest con in the book on them, and others seeing Jebus in their cereal bowl or on their toast. And they wonder why I'm depressed.
