Guest guest
Some people out there are obviously getting good deals with there insurance or not disclosing because half of the PCC Networkers are always travelling abroad. I will send an email out to see if any have good insurers that they want to share. I have also attached the list of possible insurers we have, though you have already mentioned 2 on the list. But good luck anyway and let me know how you do. Does anyone out there have a good insurer? If so please let us know. I'm not decrepit, I live almost a normal life, I don't use a wheelchair. Age Concern will insure us but they now want to put a £10,000 excess on Maureen for her chest problems - it seems travel insurance has just got harder to get! Guest guest
Pat Age Concern wanted to put a £10,000 excess on Mauren's chest. PosT office wouldn't have me because I had Prostate Cancer. We have got fixed up with PTI through this website - attached - they just want a fit to go note before the holiday is taken. Guest guest
Laurie at the Prostate Cancer Charity was getting a list together try e-mailing info@... Also it may be worth looking on the web for policies that only require a fit to travel note from the doctor The worst place to get insurance for is the USA this isn' t surprising bearing in mind wha\t thay charged me for 3 hours wait in the ER waiting room, a blood test ot two and a dose of stomach medecine - all for a check for a urine infection that turned out to be stomach cramps. - $188 seemed bad enough but $509 on top for the doctor seems excessive to us Brits
Guest guest
RE: insurance , We are two miles north of Sellafield and just 14 miles from Wasdale Head! Superb walking country and within easy travelling distance from some of the finest scenery in the world. The only problem is travelling to just about anywhere else!! The Cumbria rail coast line is much underrated. It traverses a couple of scenic estuaries )Duddon and Ravenglass. Road wise forget Hard Knot etc, the volume of visitors now make it uncomfortable. After my surgery 04/02 I wrote to the Health Minister re screening for males. I have the reply (from a delegated Civil Servant) which bleats on about the inconclusive nature of the PSA etc. I read into it that the Health Service could not cope with the volume of work which would arise from a National programme let alone have sufficient medical personnel with the degree of specialism required. As I regard myself fortunate to have had a timely RP I have 1'st hand experience of the value of early detection. A view reinforced by a number of recent contributers to the group. I was initially referred by a GP who was concerned by me complaining of loss of libido. Oddly this GP was not aware of the existance of the Gleason scoring arrangement and I had to pass on my newly gained knowledge to him following biopsies! If you are ever in this area you would be welcome to visit us and see the Western fells and valleys in a bit more detail. Cheers Colin C
Guest guest
Hi Laurie, Sorry for this late reply. I have pasted an article from our latest newsletter for you and others to read regarding travel insurance. I hope this is helpful although i guess it will not help those outside of the UK: TRAVEL INSURANCE (TPSA newsletter March 2004) " It is often very difficult for patients who have had cancer treatments to obtain travel insurance to cover the cancer whilst on holiday. Many companies refuse it or if they do cover you, will charge up to £1000. Here is a list of some tried and tested companies, which patients have used and recommended: C H Facilities Ltd Newly recommended 0870 7506711 J & M Insurance Newly recommended by a patient 020 7446 7654 ABC Insurance 0800 171 000 Will cover you even if you have had recent treatments, as long as life expectancy is more than 4-6 months, and your doctor says you are fit to travel. Worldwide Travel Ins 01892 833338 As long as treatment was not within 6 months. RIAS Travel 0800 552 100 Exclusively for those over 50. Will also cover cancer patients. Very competitive. It is worth shopping around as premiums can vary greatly. Here is letter from a TPSA member who recently took out holiday insurance: “Dear TPSA, Thank you for your list of travel insurers. I have decided to take C.H. Facilities Ltd., which quoted me a single trip to Europe up to 10 days duration for £39.40 per person 65 or over, (I will be 75 when I travel) and a single trip to Canada up to 17 days duration for £177.35. As I have booked holidays in France, Italy and Canada (three in total for 2004), the quote is a total of £256.15. One insurer I tried quoted me £780 for the three holidays!” Yours sincerely (TPSA member) Hope this helps!
