What does traction mean?

Hi all

A while back I posted about physiotherapy - well, I had to postpone the appt

until tomorrow afternoon, and before I go to the appt I just wanted to ask the

group about a reply I received (posted anonymously below) advising me to avoid

traction. I'm posting to the group because I need a quick reply...

Could someone tell me what 'traction' means in this context and give me an

example of which movements might cause it, because I haven't got a clue, and I

really don't want to do something harmful tomorrow.

Thanks!

Amy (UK)

Subject: Re: Physiotherapy (physical therapy)

You need to make sure you avoid traction and any passive neck

positions that increase your head/neck pain. You need to make sure

your therapist is aware of your diagnoses because it does make a

difference how they should treat you.
