Astrologick Special Report

Presidential Elections 2004

October 28, 2004

By Glynn

The Whole World is Watching

You've been hearing it for some time now that this is the most

important election ever to be determined by the American people. Even

if you haven't heard it, you most certainly know this to be true. I've

personally felt this way for the past four years - knowing that more

than the fate of our republic will be hinged on the 2004 election, but

the fate of the Earth. This is more than a presidential election, this

is a referendum on the future of our planet.

Although I don't pretend to know the outcome of the upcoming Elections,

I've been pouring over the charts, and combined with daily doses of

news, I feel a need to share my speculations. I'm sure none of this is

likely to change anyone's vote, so we can simply look upon this as an

interesting exercise in astrological prognostication. There are other

astrologers that agree and disagree with my insights, but this is all

simply food for thought as we head into the final stretch.

Then and Now

In the late autumn of 2000, back when Astrologick was a weekly feature

in the Bloomington Voice/Independent, I predicted that the presidential

election polls would close in confusion without a clear winner, and

that the election's outcome may fall to the Electoral College in spite

of the popular vote. This wasn't too difficult to predict as there were

obvious, in-your-face signatures pointing to disrupted or disputed

outcomes.* At the time, nobody even considered the possibility that

such an event could occur, so I was essentially going way out on a limb

with such a prediction.

Yet astrology didn't allow me to see the outcome. I didn't see the

lawsuits, dimpled chads or the Supreme Court crowning W. Bush,

but that was probably due to my own biased inability to consider the

notion that someone could actually steal a U.S. election - and get away

with it. To be able to see such a signature would mean that one would

have to entertain the possibility to begin with. This time around, I

expect it as there are already a number of news stories surrounding

missing absentee ballots and other hijinx that are pointing to an

attempt to throw this election. The charts seem confirm this notion.

The Election Chart

Drawing up a chart for the election involves fixing a time and place

where the first votes are cast. In this case, the first polls open on

November 2 at 6:00 a.m. on the East Coast, so I set the chart for New

York City. The patterns that emerge seem to confirm the existence of a

very close race with the high probability of voter fraud and/or

recounts.

When examining event charts, the first thing one looks for are signs,

planets and points located on any of the four angles. Scorpio is

rising, showing the levels of passion surrounding the vote. At the time

the polls open on the East Coast, the Moon's nodes are exactly rising

and setting, suggesting a " fated " quality to the proceedings. The

Moon's South Node is rising in this chart, which is to say that the

overall character of this election is heavily influenced by the past;

in this case, images of the 2004 Election. The North Node precisely

setting in the chart challenges us to do something to avoid a repeat of

the last election, but it's left in the hands of others - and in the

hands of universal Taurus, we're looking at the thick and the stubborn.

Neptune is sitting at the very bottom of the election chart (4th house

cusp), an area of the chart associated with final outcomes. (In the

last election, Uranus sat in this same location, indicating unexpected

outcomes.) Neptune is often associated with deception, confusion,

disappearances and hidden factors - all of which could have a major

impact on the outcome of the election. In addition to the 4th house

cusp's association with endings, it also represents the voting public

as well as the political party currently out of power. Neptune's

location here could be seen as having a weakening effect on Kerry as

well as an illegal disenfranchisement of the voting public that could

result in chaos and cries of fraud. Then there's a possibility that

Neptune is representing a hidden factor with regard to the voters, such

as large popular vote for Kerry unseen by the polls going into the race.

Another important factor to consider is the amount of activity taking

place in Cancer, a sign associated with security and traditional

values. Saturn has been in Cancer for nearly two years now, and has a

tendency to respond to changes in the status quo with fear and

resistance. Clinging to notions of security, Saturn in Cancer has

allowed such abominations as the Patriot Act to be welcomed by the

scared American public hoping for something (anything!) to protect us

from the " bad guys. " Adding to the Saturnian chilling-effect, Saturn is

sitting virtually motionless (stationing) in late Cancer, intensifying

the level of resistance which in turn could have an impact on the final

outcome by way of recounts and legal challenges.

We also find the U.S. progressed Moon (the public) in Cancer even as

the Moon will transit through Cancer on Election Day. This double Moon

in Cancer suggests that emotions will trump the intellect when it comes

to the voting public. Will Americans choose a largely unproven

candidate, or will they keep the known and familiar even if his record

is terrible?

There is one other factor that suggests legal challenges to the outcome

by way of a Venus-Jupiter conjunction (in the 11th house of voting)

forming a flowing contact to Neptune. This is where the concept of

democratic values comes to the foreground, along with lawyers, courts

and big money. The fact that the U.S. was born with a Venus-Jupiter

conjunction in its chart speaks volumes about walking the talk of

democracy. Speaking of which...

The United States Chart

If we take the Election Chart and superimpose it onto the United States

Chart, we get additional information, some of which goes further to

confirm the above while other factors appear to be in contradiction.

Most importantly, we find Saturn stationing opposite the U.S. Pluto

placement, suggesting a challenge to authority and the status quo. If

Pluto represents the unbridled power expressed by the most powerful

nation in the world, Saturn's opposition to this point is like a

reality check - slowing down or even stopping covert power plays and

the power of Big Money to buy an election. At the same time, this

contact suggests high levels of tension that often find expression

through the use of brutal force. Although this seems highly unlikely,

another contact involving Pluto moving opposite the U.S. Mars placement

does tend to confirm some level of strife. Whether this is reflected in

the ongoing war in Iraq, a terrorist incident on U.S. soil, or

heavy-handed police tactics, the specter of violence cannot be

discounted. This is further underscored with transiting Mars forming

harsh, 90-degree contacts to the U.S. Pluto and Mercury placements

which could manifest as angry words, intimidation or vote manipulation.

With Mercury (ruler of voting) transiting through the U.S. 12th house,

there is more going on here than meets the eyes, further illuminating

the potential for deception or fraud.

Adding the layers of Cancer-related themes, the transiting Moon will be

moving over the Cancer Sun placements of both the U.S. and Bush. Some

astrologers see this as a slam-dunk as the Sun is representative of the

presidency, but I'm not so sure. The Moon forming conjunctions to these

solar placements might simply point to the fact that this is a

referendum on the state of the presidency. The fact that the Moon will

be separating from these conjunctions before the polls close could

indicate voters taking a pass on Bush.

I also find it interesting that the transiting Venus-Jupiter

conjunction I mentioned above is forming a 90-degree alignment to the

U.S. Venus-Jupiter conjunction, presenting a probable challenge to

everything we hold to be true about our superior form of government.

This is where politics are personal and the need to walk our talk

becomes crucial if we're to hold onto any credibility in the world.

Progressed Sun Ingress

Rounding out this look at planetary activity relative to the U.S.

chart, there is one other important factor that needs to be considered,

not only because of its uncanny timing, but also the long term impact

on the direction of the country. The U.S. progressed Sun leaves

Aquarius and enters Pisces on October 30 - three days before The

Election - where it will remain for the next 30 years. The Nation's

basic energy pattern changes elements at this time, shifting from

mental air (Aquarius) to emotional water (Pisces).

Pisces is considered one of the more passive signs of the zodiac as

well the one given to religious and/or spiritual belief systems. Pisces

says: " I believe. " As the Sun in the charts of nations are embodied by

their rulers, the presidents we elect over the next 30 years will

undoubtedly reflect Piscean qualities. There are indications that the

progressed U.S. Sun in Pisces would be more comfortable living under a

monarchy than under an Aquarian democracy; content to allow someone

else make all the decisions - particularly if that someone else is seen

as an embodiment of God's Will on Earth. Kings are " appointed " by God

and are therefore unaccountable to anyone save God - free to wage

useless wars, enslave the population and plunder the kingdom. If anyone

besides W. Bush where running for election, I wouldn't be nearly

as concerned, but there is ample evidence that Bush has a taste for

being the ruling monarch and plenty of people out there willing to

crown him. Pisces (and its analog, Neptune) also has associations with

debilitating mental and emotional problems - hinting at the possibility

that we might have a president that displays psychotic tendencies. Not

a pleasurable thing to contemplate.

But it doesn't need to be this way. Progressed Sun in Pisces also

amplifies the element of compassion, humility and a deep sense of

connection to everything that lives and breathes on planet Earth.

Instead of preaching the doctrine of Americanism at the expense of the

rest of the human family, we can choose leaders who will work with

other nations to make the world a fit place for everyone to live in.

Even a little common sense added to the waters of Pisces can lend

itself to imaginative solutions to some of our most crushing problems.

It simply depends on who runs the show, which is where we come in.

The Election Aftermath

When viewing the astrology of The Election, there are a number of

alignments that don't become exact until after the votes are in. Some

of these alignments come to perfection in the days following The

Election, while others will pay out over the course of weeks or months.

If there isn't a decisive victory be either candidate, we can pretty

much expect a contested election while there is still room for dirty

tricks and hidden agendas.

With the Sun forming a 90-degree (square) aspect to Neptune two days

following the election, we have an indicator of confusion and/or

deception (Neptune) with regard to the presidency (Sun). There is also

some possibility for emotionally-charged hysteria gripping some

segments of the population while a giant question mark hovers over the

electorate.

The weekend following The Election sees three major events that may or

may not be connected to the outcome. The first involves Mercury forming

a 90-degree to unpredictable Uranus, which indicates sudden or shocking

news and revelations. There is also some potential that news emerging

at this time will be unreliable or even false, leading to a possible

retraction. At the same time, Mars forms a 90-degree alignment to

Saturn as this stern planet becomes stationary retrograde. This is an

unstoppable force colliding with an immovable force and is often cited

as a time of obstacles, frustrations, anger and resentment. Let's face

it, no matter who gets elected, there will be millions of very angry

people out there.

Considering the fact that we're still seeing the Taurus Lunar Eclipse

paying itself out in the weeks following The Election, everything

contained within the cycle will have some bearing on the outcome. Right

before the Scorpio New Moon (Nov. 12), Mars will enter Scorpio where

passions can often lead to violence within the collective while Uranus

stations direct, suggesting the potential for major surprises and a

sense of social instability that could coincide with upheavals,

protests and rebellions. Now, this doesn't automatically indicate that

Americans will be out on the streets, but it does point to the voicing

of displeasure anywhere on the planet at that time.

Taken as a whole, I'm feeling rather concerned about the aftermath of

the election almost more than its outcome. Hopefully, whatever comes to

pass will be seen as an opportunity to become more involved in the

political process that has been intended to be by the people and for

the people since Day One of this great republic. Above all, we need to

see the outcome of The Election as an outgrowth of our collective

movement toward a profound shift in consciousness that will occur with

or without our cooperation. Peace.

*At the time, Mercury was moving retrograde when the polls opened, but

then stationed direct just as the polls closed on the West Coast.

Voting or " the casting of lots " is strictly a Mercury affair and its

station on the Libra/Scorpio cusp (29Lib59) suggested an interruption

or disruption in the selection process. The media (Mercury) fell all

over itself by reporting (Mercury) winners and then reversing

(retrograde) their declarations. Another indication was the Pisces Moon

turning void-of-course (VOC) within minutes of the Mercury station,

also right before the polls closed on the West Coast. Moon VOC can be

seen to mean " nothing will come of the matter " - the matter being the

choosing of a president. Another direct signature found in the chart

for the 2000 Election involved Uranus - planetary symbol of " unexpected

outcomes " - crossing the chart angle traditionally associated with

" outcomes " (Fourth House).
