Your approach sounds good. The only thing I would add would be probiotics as she

has probably eliminated them with her colonics!! Is your diet gluten free?

Gluten greatly impact nerve function, both GI and mentally for those that have

the gene (very common)

Subject: Ileocaecal Valve Syndrome

I have a very complicated, extremely needy patient, who I believe is suffering

from ileocaecal valve syndrome. Her problems include alternating diarrhoea/

constipation, passing huge amounts of mucus (which she kindly photographs for

me), extreme anxiety and a degree of mental instablility - she has been

sectioned twice - once as a result of extreme anxiety arising from a bowel

impaction - she is terrified of this happening again. She has also been

diagnosed with slow gastric emptying, various parasites and pancreatin

deficiency.

She over-medicates enormously - enzymes, enemas, colonics, magnesium, castor

oil, cholagogues - anything to empty her bowel. She has been eating a mostly raw

food diet with a juice for breakfast. She is also concurrently seeing a

kinesiologist and chiropractor.

I have put her on a simple diet of simple, bland cooked food, and some herbs:

gentian before foood, plus a main mix of mentha pip, Matricaria, Foeniculum,

Tarax radix, Humulus and Valeriana. I have firmly requested that she stop

self-medicating.

She complains that she can taste food and herbs that she has taken days before,

even a coffee enema she took 2 days ago(unprescribed) she says she can taste,

even after 2 colonics.

Does anyone know why and how this might happen?

And any treatment ideas welcome

Many thanks

I'd say be cautious with the Valerian. It can cause agitation and

nightmares in some. Are you certain it's appropriate for her?

Vib Op is the close cousin of valerian, might be more appropriate?

And of course (as we discussed at length some time ago) the potential

that humulus can cause the blues in melancholic types.

May be a case for an atropine, to slow down the activity of the GIT.

Sounds terribly complicated.

Is she scared of her own waste, or of the food? It's an important

distinction. Can she eat but is scared of being full food, or is she

scared of being full of waste? This may give some insight into what

her mind and spirit need.

Consider SJW tea, to protect against nightmares, demons, spirits.

Ditch the kenesiologist and see a craniosacral therapist instead.

She's at risk of compromising the tone of her gut. Give Vib Op in

small amounts to counter this.

Agrimony is a good GIT astringent.

Marigold and plantain to heal the surfaces.

Avena (if she can tolerate) to protect and soothe.

Flower remedies.

Don't request that she stops self medicating: that turns you into an

authority, who must be tricked or otherwise resisted. Ask her if she

wants to stop, explain why she might choose to stop, offer ways to

help her resist the impulse. Allow her to make her own choices, and

enable her to make good choices.

Nettle to strengthen the will, but not if her will is set against you!

Glechoma hedera to shift catarrh and mucous (might get worse before

it gets better, very effective at moving the stuff up out of the deep

tissue).

Photographing her waste: she wants a witness. Colonics, enemas etc:

she wants to see her own waste? Wants to see proof that she is

excreting? Sounds to me as if she is trying hard to exorcise stuff.

SJW for that.

Equesetum arvense for mental stability, structure, form.

Who has given her Dx of parasites? I see a lot of this, followed by

invitations for expensive Tx and Rxs. It really plays on the mind,

this idea of being invaded, contaminated. More effective even than

the fashion for Candida we saw in the early 2000s!

Sounds like you too need some support with this one. Make sure you

talk it through, write about it, take your own herbs.

No idea about being able to taste things two days later, but this may

be slightly hysterical? Many times Px say " I can smell my own breath

/ sweat " , but to me they smell sweet and healthy. Look forward to

seeing the views of others on this.

Best of luck, keep us posted!

I agree, sounds like nice approach to me too, she must need lots and lots of

kindness and care.

I think mainly smell and taste here would be a mental memory, but therefore not

less real.

So maybe you can give another sensation to replace the memory?

She might be traumatising herself with all this obsessiveness about elimination,

so maybe some nice smelling essential oils in a little bottle, or to massage

over the tummy, to aid

healing and help with digestion in place of enemas:

roman chamomile, lavender, neroli?

She should like the smell!

best wishes, marilena.
