Hey, wh is evbody??

Have a thought to share:

" Things are changed by what comes after. " Ann Tyler

This remark in one of her bks has stayed w/me for many years. Very often it

applies to the way we think/rethink ab people after they have died. But it

applies to all kinds of situations.

When I was ab 10, n over here on a visit, I goofed off with a friend by

cutting wedges of orange peel n turning them white side out n putting them over

our

teeth. Then we wld grin at the grownups who wld guess that we were Eleanor

Roosevelt!

Years later, I winced at this mockery wh I realized wh a remarkable woman she

was n how admirable n courageous n influential she became.

Death especially puts a frame about any life. I think of Jimmy 's life

after the presidency or of my parents, etc. And certainly of the incredible

twists n turns n unexpected consequences of my own life.

If u imagine an oval spiral for time n put an event as an X on it then as we

move along the line n stop to think ab the event n place a Y there, n draw a

line back to X, u will find as the years pass a new angle of view forms. This

continues thru history n X - if significant - yields an ever widening impact of

perspective. I have a book on my shelf titled JESUS THROUGH THE CENTURIES by

Pelican, as an example, but even in terms of " retro " fashions, the charm of

the oddest things past come out with a 'new' aspect.

This exercise in reflection might have meaning for some of u n might be worth

exploring.

There is a shocking realization of the difference between 'l'aire du temps'

enthusiasms n the endurance of the 'classical'. I suspect that those things

that truly endure are the ones containing archetypal motifs, the 'once upon a

time' that Jung points out is NOW or time out of time.

Just contrast Beethoven or the epoque of Viennese waltzes w/today's rap n

grunge. Wh the rappers are 70 yrs old will there be a nostalgic view?

The same applies to civilizations - Babylon of old overlaid today w/tanks n

bombs. Or the Olympics n the glory that once was Athens.

Musings fr yr slowly recovering

Alice you have a way that touches hearts.

I can't wait for you to relate the synchronicities during your

illness that you mentioned you would share. Continue to improve in

health.
