Thank you, Donna. I am not telling him that the nausea might be from

the Aricept because he might become resistant to taking it. The

nausea seems mild at this point.

Lorraine,

Does it say to give it with food? That may help with the neusea?

Donna R

Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in

a nh.

She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.

Aricept question

Donna, the hand out said with or without food. I have been giving it

first thing in the morning and sometimes he has a light snack. Since

he also has PD, I wait to give him breakfast until his first PD meds

kick in. It must be very slight nausea because I have to ask how he

feels before he mentions it. He is vocal about other aches and pains.

Lorraine: Be sure he started at 5 mg. My husband never could take more than

that or he would get sick. I wish now we would have tried to split the 10 and

given it twice a day to see if that would work.

As for improvement, you may not see improvement, but it should hold him for some

time. These drugs usually work for 3-4 years at most, but it's not good to take

them off of them even if you don't think they are working, as they can go

downhill and not recover even if they start taking them again.

The Excelon patch is supposed to be better for the nausea problems. You might

consider that. Also, Namenda given with Aricept/Excelon/Razadyne sometimes

really helps. If he's not on that, too, you might consider that.

Also, I would certainly give it after he eats. Personally, I can't take meds on

an empty stomach at all.

June again.

June, thank you for the information and the idea of twice a day. I

will keep that in mind because I have wondered if the nausea would

worsen at 10 mg. BTW, yes he started at 5 mg. Once when he was in

the hospital for test(maybe an EKG) a nurse said his skin is sensitive

to adhesive when she was taking an EKG type patch off. That has not

encouraged me to consider the Exelon patch.
