Guest guest
Hello everyone I have a patient who had his colon removed last year following a severe UC flare. He came to me with a chest infection that had been lingering for 2 months and also with a cut that would not heal. He had been waiting for an operation to form a pouch from his small intestine so that he could get rid of his bag, but his surgeon refused to operate until his chest cleared up. After taking herbs for two months and making some dietary and lifestyle changes, he is much much better and the operation is due a week on Tuesday. He has a history of iritis and also was suffering severe pain from spondylitis which the herbs have helped with enormously so that he has reduced his diclofenac dose from 150mg to 50mg daily and has a much improved range of movements. He has also stopped taking lanzaprazole and his digestion has improved. He says he feels well for the first time in two years and is very reluctant to stop taking the herbs for any time at all, although I did suggest that it would be an idea to stop for a week before surgery. Am I being too cautious? What I want to know is is there any possible interactions or contraindications for the herbs he is taking and anaesthetics and/or surgery itself. The herbs in his mix are: Phytolacca, Baptisia, Glyc, Inula, Scut baicalensis, Thyme and Echinacea. Any thoughts or information would be very welcome. Best wishes bel
