My allergist tested me to see if I could use and Xolair he looked at the results of the IG? test looked suprised at the results and said it wouldn't work for me???? He was my first allergist who didn't share much with me. I am trying sprivia but it doesn't seem to do much. The only thing is the combivent, it keeps my throat from swelling. I was given Dulera, but I am afraid to take it the laba. I took caused my lungs to tighten up/cough and make it hard for me to breath. I generally don't have much problems with my lungs. I seriously don't think they listen to me when I tell them my side

effects. I found this at http://www.dulera.com/mometasone_formoterol/dulera/hcp/patient-counseling-information.jsp Patients should be informed that treatment with beta2-agonists may lead to adverse events which include palpitations, chest pain, rapid heart rate, tremor or nervousness and death. (I thought it was just african-americans, but it also is high with caucasians) I have palpitations, rapid heartrate frequently anyway. My Mom has some kind of racing heart issue. She is on as she calls it (coumidin) rat

poision to thin her blood. My throat is swollen 24/7. It is not VCD, I was tested for that. They just say we don't know. . . . What I can take is limited. . . but I am hoping things will work out eventually : )I take pulmicort 2-2x a day, pantanase 2x day, combivent one spray 4x to 6x a day,Allegra (not seening it work at all), nasal rinse up to 3x daily. If I have an attack which usually involves throat and abdomen swelling, flushing, increased heartrate/bp, burping, hiccuping, regurgitating food, I take sudafed

30mg and benedryl 25mg. It makes it so I can get through the attack, The problem usually will last for 2 to 4 days to resolve. Where eating and breathing return to normal. Sometimes it think it is food/preservatives/sulfite/alcohol triggers and other times I am not sure. Lynne To: "asthma " <asthma >Sent: Friday, July 29, 2011 11:20 PMSubject: Re: Aging with Asthma

Hi Mike,

I like what you had to say ! Xolair is one I've never tried. My pulmo has me on the Dulera and it was working fine until lately. I'll have to mention it to him the next time I see him. I'm glad you've had such good luck with the xolair and feel so much better !!

Hi Lynne,

You might want to check into Xolair if your allergies are driving your asthma. Horribly expensive, but there are sources to help pay for the drug. Ask your doc if you would be a candidate for this treatment. I am 53 and plan on another 50 years of enjoying my life to it's fullest, regardless of what that may be. I had 2 asthma attacks as a kid. I was diagnosed as an adult in 1992. Si9nce then, I've tried almost everything under the sun Ok, maybe not, but certainly everything under the Walgreens sign, almost the same thing. Nothing worked, so I was put on Xolair. My allergy symptoms cleared up, very few sinus infections so my asthma reduced. The infections drive my asthma. I recently was at National Jewish and found that my asthma is almost non-existent, but that I have 2 other lung issues that will now define my life. I choose to focus on what I have and how I can keep it

rather than how long I have to live. Whether I have a year, 5 years (possible) or much longer, I plan on living it. I will relish my time with wife, daughter at home and as often as I can see my son and his family. Being prepared is one thing, letting the worst possible things define y9ur life seems to me to be a waste of energy. Make memories for yourself and your kids. Let them remember your laugh ... let them hear that laugh for another 50 years.

I hope Alana is OK.

A major fear of mine is that I won't live long enough to see my kids graduate high school : (

I am in the process of getting everthing ready just incase I go soon for my husband and 9 year twins. Things have been close for me a few times.

I am 50 and have severe asthma and allergies (although they say they aren't sure and they really don't know)

What I really am interested in is how long you have had your diseases and how old you are.

Maybe this will give me some hope it is possible to live longer with all of this going on.

I sure hope Alana is okay. I miss her. I am sure one of children will notify you guys if something happens to me. Just because I have a daughter that turned 60 last week doesnt make me old. ha ha Now what were we talking about.....ha, ha.

Several of us have tried to contact her, sadly no one that I know of has her phone number. There has been no response for several months.

Hi Lynn.

what were you IgE numbers that the allergist didnt think it would work. I

have allergic asthma and am on xolair and it has helped me a lot...my IgE was 70

and my allergist test showed I def. had allergies.

my dds IgE at the time were over 6,000 and even though over the high number for

xolair they out her on it...it didnt help her though. Im just curious if your

allergist thinks you are too high or too low.

there is a xolair yahoo group and they are very helpful if you have questions on

xolair.

Im sorry you are having such a hard time with your asthma...mine was never as

bad as yours except when I had a resp. infections.

good luck to you...I hope you find the right meds to help with your asthma..take

care jean

I take Symbicort, it works well for me, and I also take Spiriva, and nebulizer albuterol, though I don't use it too often, and rescue inhaler albuterol, I also take Singulair for allergies. I don't like taking any of them, I think they all are dangerous in some way, especially the symbicort. To: "asthma " <asthma >Sent: Saturday, July 30, 2011 2:15 PMSubject: Re: Xolair, Dulera

Lynne,

Thank you for the info on the Dulera. I read up on it when I was first given it. It scared me very much and I didn't want to take it either. But when I read about symbicort and a few others, they seemed to be just as dangerous. I have to be on these meds or I get deathly sick. Not much of an alternative !! When I was on Spariva, I thought I had found 'the' miracle drug of the year ! It helped me a lot. With this last hospital stay, he took me off of that for some reason. I've taken Brovanna also and it helped. I didn't get any help from the Advair or the Symbicort. I take singulair every day also. Some drugs work better for some than others.

I called my pulmo yesterday and he called me in an antibiotic. I already take prednisone but he's upped that too. I'm on prednisone for my polymyalgia and arthritis. I've been on it on/off for the last 2 years. Yes, it's definitely doing a job on my bones !! I've got osteoprosis (spelling ?) and I take Actenol for that. I would love to get off this prednisone one day. When I try to get off, my ankkles swell so bad and I can't walk !

Love & Hugs
