Guest guest
Hi all, It has been helpful to lurk on this group, discovering how positive everyone is able to stay. I am trying my best, too. I'm a 50 year old woman, very active, long term vegetarian. I have a neurologist appt. Thursday, after a wait of two months. I have had an EMG and a cervical MRI - the EMG indicated demeylenation, and the MRI indicated scarring on some of the vertebrae but they told me it was arthritic. Anyway, they have said things like " MS often presents like this " and have led me to believe that it is probable. My own research agrees, but I have a problem..... I know MS has a huge variety of symptoms and everyone has a different combination, but I am trying to understand what you feel like - how is your day affected - what changes do you feel when taking the various interferons, etc. For example, I have tingly/buzzy feeling all the time, hundreds of " bee stings " every day, my left arm and several toes goe " dead " on me when in bed, waking me up, my thighs are weak, making me not want to sit down if I have to get up soon, and affecting how long I can work. Like yesterday, I trimmed a hedge, about 25 feet long, and then was what I call " wrecked " , where I had to rest and my thighs were way worse. (We have 10 acres and my outdoor obligations are HUGE!) Sometimes I just HAVE to go lie down NOW, fatigue overcomes me - and I feel this huge kid of whoosh of fatigue as I lie there, but recover in a few minutes. I used to be able to do a Tae Bo tape or 45 minutes on the Nordic Track and now am only able to do 20 minutes on the treadmill at 3.0 some days. I know it's important to stay active. So, pending a diagnosis, I am trying to understand what all of you are dealing with (especially people in my category, recently diagnosed and over 40) and what changes you have experienced with medication. I want to make sure I don't waste a second of my time with the neurologist and have as many questions formulated as possible. I assume that he will order a brain MRI and possibly other tests and a real diagnosis will be sometime in the future. Thanks for your help! (nannernoo@...)
