I use air purifiers, and I truly believe they make a big difference in my asthma attacks, and allergies. To: asthma Sent: Friday, July 29, 2011 7:00 PMSubject: Update again

So I ended up going to the doc again (earlier than scheduled appt). Am under orders to neb every 6 hours until I feel better and I'm on cough suppressant pills to kill the cough that a 2nd doctor now believes is attributing to this attack. They don't know it, but doggone it, I'm buying ANOTHER air purifier come payday next weekend. Whatever it takes to feel better! I'm sick of this. They are at least having me wean down off the prednisone, though.

I have them in every room of my house too. I agree with you and think they help a lot.

It can be a rough shift. Depends on the night. Hopefully tonight will be a good night, not too many traumas. I'm a chaplain and am responsible for contacting family and such in case of a trauma. At least it's only 12 hours. I can have 24 hour shifts of being on call as well.~~PATo: asthma Sent: Saturday, July 30, 2011 6:16 PMSubject: Re: Update again

Wow. Given how, for me, my emotions can impact my asthma, you have got to be a saint.

God bless you and I hope it is a good shift for you and the families you might have to call.

I'm not using a saline sinus rinse, not sure how to and a bit nervous, to be honest. I've heard good and not so good things about them. I do know that I need to stay moist as that is probably one thing that could aggravate the cough and so the asthma. I will say that I'm doing better today. I have not nebbed since last night (although I may need to here shortly), but that's still an improvement. Suppressing the cough really seems to be working out well. Ironic that the cough was causing the asthma instead of the other way around.~~PATo: asthma Sent: Monday, August 1, 2011 1:39 PMSubject: Re: Update again

I have air purifiers throughout the house and just bought one to put on my work desk because we have a bug man that comes around a sprays chemicals. I found out that it doesn't do much to help with allergies to my cat but I'll take what I can get. I just started using the saline solution and I believe it has really helped reduce the severity of my colds.

,I have to agree with Willow in that purifiers can make a huge difference when dealing with allergies. Are you using a saline sinus rinse? That could also help tremendously as well.

So glad you are feeling better.I avoided using the saline sinus rinse for years but finally decided to try it and have found it to be helpful. I totally understand and the fact that it might not work for everyone.. But speaking as someone who really didn't want to put water in their nasal passage, it's not bad in case you think it might be helpful.

One of the things we noticed that seemed to help with a dramatic improvement for me was that we started using the high end Filtrete brand air filters on our ventilation system. The only place we can get the ones we use is at LOWES...they carry either a 1900 or 2100 ppm rating. The filters come in a dark dark blue color on the Filtrete wrap. We only need 2, but they are 20.00 apiece....we change them religiously every 3 months. About the time we switched to them my asthma improved, but there were some other changes too that helped Im sure.

We tried them b.c our friend with severe allergies swears by them...never seen him with a stuffy nose so I guess they work.

I just buy it in a little bottle you squirt up your nose. Really easy, just don't squeeze it hard, just gently, and makes a difference, when not all stuffed up, on a daily basis or whenever, seems to make it a little better. To: asthma Sent: Monday, August 1, 2011 2:27 PMSubject: Re: Update again

Yes I use the saline sinus rinse, helps a great, and I don't use the Flutacasone so much as I used to, so I am able to cut down on chemicals going into my body a little there. I only with I would have bought different air cleaners. They are very good, but they have two filters in each one. One you can wash and replace, but, the other one you have to throw away. I found out that instead of putting new ones in every three months, if I take the filter outside and shake it off and vacuum it a little, I can get away with 6 months, and then only have to buy them twice a year. Saves a lot of money that way, and works great. Surprise, surprise. The air filters canisters are relatively large and I have one in each of the larger rooms of the apt. Since the kitchen and bath are

small, it works pretty good. I am so thankful. To: asthma Sent: Monday, August 1, 2011 1:39 PMSubject: Re: Update again

I also buy the Walgreen's Saline Mist and use if frequently because my nose always gets so dry. Also, that dryness wakes me up through the night and find myself spraying my nose every 2 hours and that will give enough relief so that I can go right back to sleep. Another thing I use is the Refresh Tears since all of my membranes become so dry. At all times both are in my bag.SharonFrom:"willothewispl@..."
