Guest guest
So, the heat and such that caused the attack, I went on prednisone and thought I'd be fine. After all, I've been invincible on prednisone before, right? WRONG :-(. I ended up back in the ED tonight, needing 2 duoneb treatments and an extra dose of prednisone. Got chest x-rays and a blood gas test (which has my wrist nice and swollen and sore). So I'm back on upped prednisone until I see the doc AGAIN, and will be traveling with at least one of my nebulizers from now on (just remembered the other one...I hope it still works, it's been in the CAR during the HOT days :-S ). Has anyone else taken prednisone and then despite that been back in the ED due to another attack? This dopey one progressed so fast it was scary! Guest guest
Yes it has happened to me in the past andMore recently this past June. The heat and Humidity have a strong neg. Effect onAsthma. Today was the first day we had lowHumidity and cool weather ( northeast) andI feel like a different person today. Had to useThe neb. Most days this past week but notToday!Sent from my iPod So, the heat and such that caused the attack, I went on prednisone and thought I'd be fine. Guest guest
Sometimes that happens...since you probably couldnt get away from what triggered you it just added to the fire. It also depends on how much prednisone they gave you initially too...you might not have had enough to start with. Ive had to go back but in my case the PA in the clinic decided Id been on and off prednisone too often that year and didnt want to put me on a high dose..(despite the fact that I also had poison ivy) and figured a dose pack would be sufficient. It wasnt...I ended up going to the ER the next day. They put me on 60mg of pred..and I cleared up. In my case I clearly did not get a proper dose in the first place...so I dont know if you want to count that or not. Ive had bronchitis before where its taken 6 months and numerous rounds of antibiotics to recover. (Also how I found out I am highly allergic to sulfa...talk about hives...omg). Ann Prednisone that DIDN'T kill an attack??? So, the heat and such that caused the attack, I went on prednisone and thought I'd be fine. After all, I've been invincible on prednisone before, right? Guest guest
Prednisone DOES NOT stop asthma attacks. You need a rescue inhaler for that. Guest guest
I was using my rescue inhaler (4 puffs in 4 hours), however, prednisone usually stops flare-ups for me and I had been on pred since Friday. This was so unusual for me. I had been on 30mg Fri and Sat, 25 Sun and yesterday (before they gave me the extra) and am now back on 30mg until I see my doctor. This was just insanely unusual so I was wondering if anyone else has had that issue where prednisone didn't stop the flare-up.~~PATo: asthma Sent: Tue, July 26, 2011 7:48:21 AMSubject: Re: Prednisone that DIDN'T kill an attack??? Guest guest
Wow, that is great for you that it stops any flare ups. Wish it worked like that for me. I use my rescue inhaler several times a day.
