the only question is to what level. And Jack -- before you do a Serena

on me, recognize that everything is toxic if the body is given more than it can

process, including water.

That said, here's the basis for the theory that almost all of us here espouse:

The % of PEG that escapes into the body is reported as 2% t 5% in most studies.

By and large the test population was healthy subjects without significantly

impaired GI tracts (ie leaky gut).

Many of us believe that any % is too much, but for a child especially why would

we have a child injest a chemical when many of us have found natural

alternatives for constipation that work mcuh better in the long run.

And last but not least -- in test conditions and in sewage treatment plants it's

been found that some types of bacteria can degrade PEG into EG. This may

account for the 'missing' 2% to 5% -- the large molecule PEG is degraded in the

colon into EG which passes through the intestinal membrane and on into the

bloodstream.

NOPE -- I don't have the money for a study to prove this, but this hypothesis is

quite simple and most scientific minds would state that it is sound and should

be studied. Unfortunately science has taken the back seat to the almighty

dollar, so I don't foresee any $$ coming our way in order for this to be

properly studied. Additionally, even if the study proved the theory, the

chances that the results would be published would be slim. Schering Plough saw

revenue growth of 20% for miralax in 2008.

And last but not least -- last time I looked, Miralax had only been approved by

the FDA for usage by adults for a 14 day period of time.
