I think the approved age for the shingles vaccine is 60 and over.

So far, the vaccine seems to have stopped my chronic shingles, but is has taken

a long time.  The first year, the nerve pain was not as bad but I still got 1-4

outbreaks each month. I had the second shot in April, a year after the first.  I

had the regular outbreaks for about three months, but since then, nothing.  I

keep famvir handy in case it comes back, but so far, so good.

Hanna,

I hope the vaccine works!! Please let us know.

Just out of curiosity, how old do you have to be for your insurance company

to cover the vaccines?

Take care,

Shingles is caused by

the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. After

you've had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near your spinal

cord and brain. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles especially

after stress. Stacey in TX

Hi all,

Just curious...I got a tentative diagnosis of shingles today. I am 39 and have

Graves and Hashi's. I was dx'd by ob/gyn today who was seeing me as I am

recovering from the 3rd miscarriage in the last year.

Wondering if the Thyroid diseases and/or the miscarriage could have pushed me

into the Shingle's?

Actually, I should have been more clear. I do know that it is caused by the same virus as Chicken Pox. I didn't mean that I had no idea what causes it, I just wondered if having the other issues contributed to the shingles flaring up? I know that stress is a contributing factor...I guess my body has been physically as well as emotionally stressed out. Also, does the autoimmune factor of the Graves/Hashi's have a greater effect on it?From: sjp730
