Guest guest
Pat, I think medication should be adjusted as your needs change so as to neither force you to eat, or experience lows. By tracking your blood sugars you get the needed information. I lost weight on a low fat diet, I had to be very careful about fat. chances are as you lose thee weight your medication will have to be reduced further, You should not think of it as a fixed dose. I was able to go on diet only, after weight loss. Sam
Guest guest
Sam, I am in total agreement with what you say. I have invested in a new glucometer which is gentler on my fingers and am testing four times a day for now. And have promised my doctor I would keep him apprised of what is happening. He has given me parameters to follow. And I was off meds two years ago for a while when I lost twenty pounds. I blew it by gaining it back, and not keeping my doctor informed :-( I am still researching what is the best plan for eating. I want to change my habits but not get caught up in a fad. So by testing I can see what effect certain menus have on me. My doctor has recommended the Zone diet. I have only been on it for 1 1/2 day now and still researching it's " health profile " . I have not committed to it yet. Blessings, Pat E Levy wrote: > > > Pat, I think medication should be adjusted as your needs change so as to > neither force you to eat, or experience lows. Guest guest
Meenie, Thank you for your wonderful welcome. I wouldn't quite call myself a low-carb person yet :-) Though my numbers are looking good. I am looking forward to learning from all of you and getting to know you. Guest guest
Pat, as guidelines, going to diet only I had to give up breakfast cereals, even oatmeal in small amounts. I gave up bread and wheat products like pasta. I limit rice corn and potato, I have half with dinner. what I learned by was getting a stable sugar before eeating, like a 90, then eating a slice of bread, I went to 135 and 140 an hour later, two tries. for low fat I gave up sauces and gravies, broiled on the gas grill outdoors. I was really serious and lost weight. I rather packed it on lately, nuts and chocolate squares, sauces, some fried foods with drops of oil. Exercise does help, or work as you prefer!, Regards, Sam
Guest guest
Pat, I asked Lifescan for an adjustable lance and they sent 200 of their new lanceets, they are rather good. Sam

I sure have this last year - it has helped me get control - lose weight - and even though my cholesteral was not high to begin with it did drop 23 points in the last year - so that was even a good " side benefit " . Don't apoligize for the long post - they are great and that is what we are all here for - to share and to listen and support!
