Hi Lew,

May I suggest checking in Russia for cryonic surgery.

As far as I am aware it has been practised and researched there more than anywhere else in the world, literally for thousands of years.

Of course, not being drug related the western world is reluctant to get involved as there is little or no profit, but you may well find it of interest if you are looking for a cure.

All the best

Dear Lew

it's great that you have joined the group, i hope you stay with us and keep us informed of your progress.

cryosurgery is still very new here in the UK with only one place doing it regularly. it appears to be quite successful for radiation failure but a lot do not consider it for first time as the impotence rate is high. i was reading last week that they can actually do 'nerve sparing' cryo. It should be quite common now in the States, and you should check this out.

I will forward the info when i find it.

Take care

cryosurgery

Hi everyone

This is my first post I think; I’ve been lurking several lists for a while & only posted to one or 2.

As a bit of info; I’m 60; my Dad died from prostate cancer in ’95 that had spread to the bones & lymph nodes. Mostly his own fault as he hadn’t had a physical since 1958 until about 1993 or so when he got to feeling bad and was too far gone. Please don’t get me wrong; I loved him dearly & AM NOT “bad mouthing” him but stating facts. He passed away at age 80 in lots of pain.

Needless to say I’ve been “watching things.” I’m a veteran (Viet Nam era) with enough of a hearing loss (service connected) to get VA medical benefits. My PSA has steadily risen from around 5 when first checked (I believe the first PSA was shortly after Dad’s death in December of 95) to the current 8.7. Had 2 biopsies “through the back” with no cancer found. Last biopsy (January 6, 2003) was from the front along with a “roto rooter” (sorry for the “slang” but my medical terminology is terribly lacking). They found the cancer; gave it a Gleason score of 4; recommended surgery or radiation. Bone & cat scans indicate no spread beyond the prostate.

The Temple. TX VA doctor recommended surgery (removal of the prostate) but said since he was a surgeon he (of course) felt this was the best route. Also recommended I talk to the San VA radiation doctors & warned me that since they were radiation experts they would probably favor the radiation. I go to San in April. The choice of treatment is mine.

My cousin (a newspaper reporter) gave me a couple of articles she did back in the ‘90’s on a couple of local doctors doing cryosurgery. I plan to talk to these doctors (or at least one of them) this week if possible. Everything I’ve found on the web so far is several years old & “cautiously optimistic” to a “just maybe” option.

Does anyone here know anything about cryosurgery or where to find any info that’s not several years old? I want to be as “sure as possible” that something will work with the least after effects! I want to beat this & stay around for a lot more years!

Thanks!

Thanks

I found a bit of info from a hospital in Florida about the nerve sparing treatment & plan to investigate this;

sounds real good. They give no real

details but the nice thing is that they’re near where my cousin (same one

that did the article on the local doctors when she lived here) now lives &

it seems that the recovery (point to where I could fly back home) seems to be

short. It’s about 1200 miles

from where I live. Like I said, I plan

to also contact the local doctors but we’re “iced in” (very

unusual for central Texas) today.

Any more info you find would be deeply

appreciated; particularly testimonials from someone that has been through it!

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is common for radiologists/oncologists

to do the implants, though some surgeons are now getting more involved.

It has been said that as a surgeon has a

much better idea of the 3D image they would be better at doing brachy and cryo.
