It is a possibility that what you had before you went to the doctor was asthmatic bronchitis... Generally they call it asthmatic bronchitis if you have both asthma and bronchitis. It could come from an infection or virus, or it could be the result of things that might be triggers. The link below has a really good explanation of asthmatic bronchitis. Everyone is different when it comes to asthma. I personally end up with a good case of bronchitis just about every time I get sick, but Ive also learned that the very first sign of an impending asthma attack for me is a sore throat about 3 days prior. I get the sore, scratchy throat, then I get increased nasal congestion and stuffiness. It moves down into my chest on day 3. So, what we tried was doing sinus rinses and salt water gargles as soon as I get the sore throat. It keeps me clear, and I have been able to fend off several flares. I also start my albuterol every 4-6 hrs. If my peak flows still drop, I use my nebulizer. Im not someone who wheezes, so I could be in the midst of a fairly decent flare and still not wheeze...I cough and get short of breath.

Being somewhat new, you might find some value in keeping a log of how your breathing every day and on days when youre not breathing so well, keep track of what you ate, weather conditions, how you feel otherwise (are you congested, having post nasal drip, etc). This should help you learn what besides exercise triggers your asthma. And...especially do it when you arent feeling well. This log could be a valuable thing for you if you go to your doctor and can say Here...look at this....these are my symptoms and this is what is going on. Any patterns will become evident, and because everyone is different, it will help your doc and you develop an individualized plan of what to do when you feel an attack coming on.

I hope your breathing better soon!! And I hope this helps you some...

asthmatic bronchitis

does anyone know what asthmatic bronchitis is? i am semi new to having asthma, i have at least exercised induced asthma. usually when i get sick with sinus problems i get a really bad cough with it, and the cough goes right to my chest. i was sick a few months ago with sinus issues and got a really bad cough with it, it started out dry and on and off then it because more severe. then my cough because loud and hacking. it also became more frequent. some days i would cough all day longs and other days i would take cough meds and they would work few hours then i would go back to coughing real bad again. sometimes it hurt when i cough, and sometimes i could not lay down without coughing so bad that i thought a lung would pop out, and when i coughed that bad i would become all hoarse because of it. and also one day i woke up coughing up junk. i thought i had at least bronchitis if not pneumonia. i saw my doctor and she listened to my lungs and said they were cle

ar and gave me a steroid inhaler to use and it did get rid of my cough. did i have asthmatic bronchitis and if so can u have it and have clear lungs? and do i get that every time i get sick and get a nasty cough?
